I've booked in a mafless tune with GMM for next week and was wondering about the shift point recalibration.
I am told that the pwr button will be recalibrate to a more 'sportier' or 'harsher' shift during the tune. Can anyone shed some light on this? Is it a big difference in both feel and speed? Is it harmful?
Also I want to get a shift kit, either a mild stage 1 or a bit harsher stage 2.
Most people seem to be happy with TransGo which is what i was leaning towards but i have been offered a 'custom' shift kit made in house at Preston Diff and Autos.
Is it worth it or will the recalibration do the same sort of job? Has anyone had one of these 'custom' shift kits done? And can anyone recommend some other transmission places in Melbourne?
If i do get a shift kit, does it have to be recalibrate again to suit for optimal performance?
Cheers
from what ive heard when they tune the car they can up the shift pressures, and for some people this is more then enough firmness.
so just wait for that and see how it feels, then fit a shift kit. although i would be leaning more towards billet servo's
Yeah. When i had my mafless tune done the shift points were firmed up and the power increased a noticeable amount. When the power button is on its almost neck snapping as it changes gears( its an auto) and spins the wheels from first to second on hard acceleration. Its a huge improvement. its great watching the passengers heads thrust into the headrest as it shifts gears. You wont be able to wipe the smile off your face. Have fun...
yep mine has the line pressures upped and it can chirp 2nd with light throttle and the power button on, feels allot more limp without the power button, mines an auto as well, I step on it and it revs hard and chirps second then lift off and bang it again and it revs harder and chirps again and wags its tail. goes pretty good for a land boatno shift kit necessary. will see how harmful this is as the old tailshaft rear metal flange from the previous owner was cracked. have updated hd one now.
