You need a special puller to take it off, I would avoid buying a pump with no pulley on it, if you go to repco or somewhere like that, you should be able to get a pump for fraction more with new pulley on it, will work out less then buying pulley remover, i went through same thing, seen pumps cheap on ebay thought hmm yea cheap price then realised the pulley dilema. so i ended up payin a little more for one with a pulley on it think it was bout 160-180 or something like that cant quite remember now.

no, theres not enough meat on the pulley to get the jaws from a normal puller to grip to get if off, you could try i guess but more then likely fail. the proper puller remover clamps right around the lip on the pulley where'as 3 jaw puller just wont do it.
And then i think the pulley is heated when refitted/pressed on (dont quote me on this) maybe im wrong.

Damn that sucks, I bought a seal kit because it has a small leak if I have to buy a new one I'm not gonna bother with it. Btw can I replace any of the seals without taking the pulley off

Unfortunately, accentstencil's diagram is for a Holden V8 power steering pump not an LS1.

I'm pretty sure you can pull the shaft out from the pulley side once you take the back off the pump so there is no need to actually remove the pulley.

hey guys just a quick update, you dont have to remove the pulley! took me about an hour to put all new seals in the pump and put it back together. really simple job if you put everything back the way it goes. havent had a chance to test it yet as i havent got any dex 3. hopefully no more leaks, mind you it wasnt using much anyway just oil all over alternator which i found to be the feed hose which has become stiff over time and can only tighten so much on the hose clamp.

Just remembered, not a abba is right there all seals can be put in just a matter of removing 2 circlips, big one on back (spring loaded watchout lol)and a small one on the inside, dont forget the seal in the valve, you take out the threaded fitting that the steel power steering line screws into, there is no need to remove pulley at all, now i remember correctly, when i looked into the pulley remover previously it was because i was buying a new pump and there was availible pumps with and without pulleys.
(sorry if i led you astray) and thanx not a abba for clearing that up.

yeah got all the seals in and took her for a spin today, all seems to be okay. handy hint for big circlip at the back of pump, there is a small hole on one side, put a small nail in and gently give it a few taps with a hammer and it pries the circlip out. read a few threads with people saying it took them ages to get the clip off.
