steering controls not working

i have just bought a 2001 vx Berlina, the steering rack is leaking oil, it may need replacing??? also the steering controls arn't working, could these be related? thanks in advance

No, they won't be related. Do you have the stock radio?

Let Me know if you find a fix, The VX dont work at all, and the VY the buttons are just random functions, i have 2 volume ups, 2 modes & other 2 do as they should lol

Yes your steering rack will most likely need replacing. Or your in/out lines are leaking. Is thier fluid coming out of the rack boots?

As for the steering wheel controls..... the only way i know how to fix them is to go see a stereo install place ( i went to JB Hi-Fi) where you can purchase new controls that can be re-programmed into the car. as far as i know the factory fitted controls lose their memory and cant be reprogrammed if the cable going to them falls out etc.
also if your car has had a new stereo fitted without getting these new controls done, same deal

hey, thanks for your replies, yes it is stock eurovox radio, im not sure if fluid is coming out of the rack boots, my dad will be looking at it in a few days so i will update whether it is......also i forgot to mention the air bag/trac contl lights are always on so i dont know if the abs module needs fixing or not, could that cause the steering controls not to work, also it was detailed i heard that can cause the lights to play up,(from the moisture) im a female so i may be asking stupid questions, id just like to before i take it in to get fixed, cheers

Not true. This comment no doubt came from the same source that could have told you that your headlight fluid is low (ie. an idiot or jokester).

does the horn still work? never had anything to do with it myself, but apparently if the horn and steering wheel controls dont work, the clock spring in the steering assemly could be broken.

sorry for late reply, yeah my cousin said something about the clock spring, and yes the horn is still working, cheers
