Hi,
My clutch master cylinder push rod has snapped and it doesn't even look the same as a new one, i think the person who owned it before me has done a dodgy on it. I am going to buy a new clutch master cylinder and need to know how to replace it, Is it easy can I do it myself??
A step by step instruction would be handy.
Any advice would be appreciated.
Thanks
Sherie
i snapped one not long ago too. with my master cylinder (out of a VY series 1 5.7L apparently) i had the option of buying a new one or just buying a rebuild kit, which consisted of the pushrod and piston, circlip etc. a new master was $250 and the rebuild kit was $150.
i bought the rebuild kit and left the master cylinder bolted in and took the circlip out on the cabin side, slid out the old piston/pushrod and in with the new, fiddly prick of a job but not impossible (brake fluid will pour out so have some rags there to catch it) hooked it back up to the pedal and bled it up, u could have a look at the exploded diagrams on the computer at the dealership hopefully that will give u an idea as to wether u are getting the correct replacement bits or not.
if u get a whole new master, if u can get to the bolts holding it to the firewall/flare nuts on the lines it will be pretty easy to replace.
i dunno why but mine took ages to bleed properly with a mate pumping the pedal and me cracking the bleed nipple, went thru damn near a whole bottle of brake fluid but it come good in the end
Assuming you have a VT Series 1 you could use the instructions in the attachment below. Note you will need a PDF reader.
