Default VX 5.7 overheating, temp gauge normal

    Can anyone help me?

I brought a VX 6spd 5.7 a week ago. The first time I left it idling parked up for 5-10 mins the overflow was boiling and overflowing.

The temp gauge reads normal and the fan isn't going. I'm thinking temperature gauge sender?

But I also have another problem, I think it is computer related. The dash beeps and flashes at me and also says error on start up. Sometimes the temp and fuel gauge don't work. Sometimes the abs, traction control, oil and engine check lights come up. I'm wondering if my overheat problem is related to my computer problem?

Also, how do I go about making sure the block has water in it to drive it home?

Any geniuses out there that can help me it'd be awesome!!

    Thanks.

Just a quick question but have you done a history check on your car?
If it has lot of electrical issues it could be a ex repairable write off (water damaged).

Hmmmm... with that many issues, I'd say something a miss with the car that was not disclosed @ purchase. Unfortunately I think you could be right as said... you're up for some coin to be exchanged.

Firstly I'd say take it to a reputable LSx/Holden tuner/mechanic in you area so they at least can hook it up to a Tech2 and see what error codes are being returned.

Secondly, Your overflow connects to the thermostat housing so you are boiling the engine... just some questions:-

Do the thermo fans kick in?
It the top radiator hose colder that the bottom one(Top = left hand side above the thermo housing, Bottom = right hand side under the Inlet Air flow tube if stock)

Try thiese 3 thing regarding your overflow issue:-

    1. Thermostat not opening enough causing block in the flow so it overheats. (1=dead easy-10=must be an engineer) Repair=easy(2-3), low$$$ + time
    2. Blocked radiator, themostat is opeing enough but beause the radiator is blocked it over heats. (1=dead easy-10=must be an engineer) Replace with new one=easy/medium(3-4), Hign$$$ + time.
    3. Water pump failed/failing same results. Replace with new one=medium/HARD(5-6), high$$$ + time.
    4. All of the above... mid $$$$ @ a mechanic/LSx tuner.

Discalimer: Now I'm no mechanic and any advise is yours to take on board, I take no responsibility... but been around cars for probably longer than you have been on this earth.

    Good luck.

The dash lights coming on are a classic symptom of a faulty ABS module. Disconnect the ABS plug from the module and you should have your dash lights return to normal except for the traction control and ABS lights.
I cant recall if the ABS module caused the engine fan to not work at all or be constantly on when the faulty ABS module was left connected.
