Vt v6 battery light goes on and of

Hi guys

The last few days the battery light comes on, lights dim, radio turns of, sputters a but then all of a sudden comes good. Also seems to come good when u give it the beans. Any idea what could be causing this. Battery is less a month old, had it checked and all good. Thinking possibly the alternator but more like the regulator?

Any help would be awesome.

sounds like alternator to me, got a multimeter?

The brushes are probably worn down and making poor contact with the slip rings. Take the regulator out and check how long they are, less than 5mm or so they are worn down too far. You can just get a new regulator or if you can solder go and get some new bushes and replace them for $10.00 Other than that check the output wiring is not loose, corroded etc.

thanks heaps guys. no multi, but the mode+up button on start up shows 12v at idle, 12v at 2500, 12v at everything. when off, 11.9, lights on drops to 11.7/6. kind of weird. battery isnt losing charge but seems the alt isnt putting out 14v. whats going on?

Have a look at the brushes, as said above, sounds like they are knackered!

i'm guessing its easier to change the regulator out completely than the bushes?
