Unhappy Help finding a vac leak.

    Hi guys,

got a problem which was completely random. Every time i change gears, and put the clutch in, it will rev about 200-500 rpm more, instead of dropping. Also when hard accelerating in a high gear i get a miss. I have been told it is an air leak, or vacuum leak.

Just need some help on how to find the bastard.

    Thanks

An old and not really recomended trick is to use a squirty bottle with metho in it. Small fine spray at hose joints etc at idle. If revs go up when u spray then thats where the leak is. Once again not really recommended as the chance of burning the car, house and yourself down r quite high but it does actually work

This works but highly dangerous or fun, depending on you adventure level
Cheapest but safest is simply remove the air/vaccum lines one at a time & inspect them. Dont pull them all off at once, take one off, test then put back again. When testing block one end & blow into the other by mouth or use a air gun gently, feel along the lines for any escaping air. Check lines for wear, dry spots or cracks.

Thought I would go the safe bet and just book it into Holden. At least they can fix the miss and shitty thermostat in it as well.

Thanks for the help though guys.

I have used carby clean over the years and yet to have a fire in or on the engine while checking for leaks using this method just avoid sparks from the alternator or dodgy spark plug leads coil packs. to be safe use water in a spray bottle and listen for drop in engine revs when the water is drawn .
