Oright so i just recently did my camber kit for my VT,while it was on the hoist the guy doing it noticed a few things
1) the RMS was about to totally sh!t itself
2) my sump is actually touching and rubbing on my cross-member
3) my diff has abit of backlash
now i spent around 700$ for the camber that was put in adjusted wheels aligned etc etc etc
first question with the rear main about to go whats it cost how long etc? and i understand to do the rear main the gearbox has to be out engine dropped and what not...how much are VT auto -> manual kits?
How and why would my sump be touching my cross member?? after he told me i got my mate to jump in pull the handbreak on and chuck it in D and R and honestly i seen no real movement from the engine at all when he did it so it cant be mounts??
what can i do about the diff???
umm i really dont have alot of money to spend on the car so i need everything cheap but good i dont want to do something then have to redo it 4 months time
Thanks in advance
The rear main, if it's not completely pi***ng out oil, don't stress too much. By memory you can do the rear main with the engine IN, transmission or gearbox has to be dropped though.
As for the engine touching the cross member, it usually means engine mounts have crapped them self, and the motor has dropped a few inches as a result. It can do harm to your engine but I doubt it'd blow up as a cause of bad engine mounts. My brothers engine in his VN was sitting on the cross member for years and only made the idle rough in the cabin.
The diff is most likely the shims or something simple like that. It'll either require a rebuild or just get a good second hand diff for cheap.
If you're doing it cheap on your car don't nit pick every little thing about it. My old VX acclaim was flaring gears and had a loose diff (230,000kms), i still managed to do another 40,000kms on both of them being faulty and never had an issue.
Engine will be touching cross member because engine mounts are stuffed
yep I'll 3rd that, its the classic engine mounts shagged, just had them done on my ls1.
Loosen the mount bolts to frame. Jack up motor, slip in a 6mm shim under mount, tighten bolts.
Did this to mine 5 years ago, no problem since. Saves putting hundreds of dollars in somebody else's pocket.
Back lash in diff? If there is no noise, don't worry about it.
