So I am having a go at replacing my dead auto and the only thing that is left to undo is the oil lines at the transmission end, problem is there are two nuts a small one and a large one and both seem very difficult to undo, if I go one way it rounds the nut, if I try the other the line folds and bends, is there a trick to it?
Pipe spanner would be your best bet mate to avoid rounding the nut

OK but are the nuts regular or reverse thread? And which one are you supposed to undo? Also nice quote :P
Regular thread, you need to undo and remove both lines going the the gearbox

No I mean the nuts, theres two nuts, one on the line and one on the transmission, one is threaded onto the other.
If the lines are already damage might aswell just cut the pipe and remove the line pipe nut and fitting in the box as one then rejoin the pipes with auto cooler hose and clamps later on
Open end spanners don't grip those tight nuts and can cause the nut flats to 'round off' as you have found. A ring spanner can be modified by cutting a slot wide enough to slip over the pipe. Then a small clamp over the end to stop it from opening up when you turn the nut.

If you have mangled the nut, just cut the pipe as suggested and use good quality rubber trans hose and 2 clamps each side to refit it.

These pipe connections are nearly always hard to undo, you need to hold one nut whilst you turn the other one so the pipe doesnt turn and get kinked.Heat will make undoing these connections heaps easy, but you need an oxy or a gas torch/burner or similar to heat the connections.
