how to change the front strut bearing??? (or strut mounts... not sure what they're called!!!) my hubby has the haynes repair manual and it says nothing at all about changing them. he's only replacing the strut bearing and the rubbers that sit on top of the strut under the bonnet
im guessing your new to this site, there is a search button up the top right to find what you need if its been covered before. here you go follow this VX VU:- How to change shocks and springs
Just did this on my VX berlina, no big hassle really, just be real careful undoing the nut that holds the strut together - best to use spring compressors if you can - if that isn't an option, get someone to lean down heavily on the strut to compress it as you undo the nut then warn them when it is about to come off and make sure they don't let go suddenly. These things can be really really dangerous. For the record, I didn't use spring compressors or have someone leaning on mine. I lay mine on their sides, pointed them away from anything important and blasted the nuts off with the rattle gun. Not ideal, but it works. Once you get the strut undone, the bearings are super easy to replace. Just pay attention to the way and order the washers and rubbers came apart and make sure you put them back the same way. Doing the strut back up again really does need spring compressors or two people. I also fully greased the new bearings as they came with minimal grease in them.
