    Default Wiring sound system.

    Hey fellas.
How complex is getting into the dash of an '01 VX Lumina to wire in a head deck + running the cables through the cars trim?

No need to run wires, just use the existing loom. Just unplug the connector for your existing radio and then you can buy a connector that you wire up to the new head unit and plug it straight in. No need to cut wires or run new wires.

Alright thanks heaps, shall keep yous posted.

But first how do I pop the original unit out?
There are four holes which I thought were screws but a mate told me if you jam something in all four at once it will ease out?

yeah i also done this last week, for the old head unit get a cote hanger and cut into two 20cm straight peices and fold them into U shape and slide one into each side of the unit.
then push them in the pull back and the whole unit will just pop right out.
super cheap plugs were $15 each (need 2) which is one to match the car and one to match the new unit, then they both clip together.
and when it came to the speakers i just cut the old clips out and joined a small peice of new wire with the clips which came with the new speakers.
    simple as.

one thing to watch tho, with the head unit adapter plugs they dont clip in snugly, they wobble around and on mine they werent putting power to the rear speakers. bit of electrical tape fixed that up tho.
    good luck!

Mate thats heaps helpful, thanks heaps.
How would I go about wiring my steering wheel controls such as volume up or down into a new head unit? Would the deck need to support that type of function?
