hey guys,
probably been covered but wanted some new advice. at idle there is a ticking sound, that goes away after about 5-10 mins of driving. if at the lights and i chuck it in neutral and rev it a bit the noise re appears and gets louder and quicker on revving. probably the lifters but just wanted to know if there is anything good (additive, diesel oil, etc) to get them quiet again without hopefully replacing them.
cheers
If it's just a noisy lifter, it's nothing to abnormal for a car of this age. Could be your oil is a tad low, make sure it's topped up. But it's just a reality of these cars as they get older, mines covered a good deal of k's so there's no getting away from it. I've got a noisy lifter, but as you say, couple of minutes of driving it goes away. It also seems to be gone after my last service, fresh fluids probably help![]()

just listen to were the noise is coming from. and if its coming from under the covers check the lifters.
