    There is the cables that is plugged into my deck, but what is this other connection?
    A mate told me it wasn't standard and I could plug a new head deck straight in?

    Yep looks like an after market head unit plug that has been spliced into the loom,,
    If i were to take i guess i would say that its for a Kenwood or Sony head unit

    Any idea if this will fit any head unit? (as I was looking at an Eclipse deck).
    + Reckon' the plug supports the steering wheel controls?

    It won't fit ANY head unit. It will be specific to a brand. And none of the steering controls ever worked on my mate's aftermarket head unit

    so it will work just with a certain brand?..which was stated. and the steering wheel controls can work if you buy a certain part, its been covered on this forum over and over again.
