Hey great site just updating about my problem with the VT air-con system. The system hasnt worked for three years since i brought the car when i push the air-con button a green light turns on but no cold air sound familiar lots of people have had this problem on this forum. The fans still work and circulate but the air-con is not engaging. This is because all the gas has escaped from the system and the low pressure switch has kicked in disabling the compressor starting. I spoke to a guy today in murrarie who said that he is going to have to first run a charge into the system to see if it can maintain the recommended charge which would be a good sign that there are no leaks (ive also replaced the two o-rings that sit on the compressor outlets). I will also see if he can bypass the compressor low pressure switch to get the compressor spinning and see if the bearings are not buggered. After all of this I will see where the trail leads me too.
1.No leaks regass @ 120.00 with dye just in case.
2.Compressor stuffed 150.00 for secound hand compressor from wreckers and time to install home job then regas but no garantees with secound hand parts.
3.Rebuild compressor hmmmmmmmm?
4.Buy a new compressor hmmmmmmm?
Will keep updated off to see him in the morning cheers Gazza
try Mick Thomas 0414464884. He does a reco with warranty. He lives down around Ormeau but he's mobile and travels to the bayside. He has supplied and fitted 2 in our family and also a couple of friends and everyone's been really happy.
hey mate, i service a/c systems as a weekend job till i kick off my own business. After doing a lot of vt commo air con repairs i would say your best of getting a compressor and changing the rd filter as you need to change it for warrenty.
Yeahhh thanks guys i was recommended this guy in murrarie from Graham of Grahams tyres Capalaba/Gumdale hes a decent bloke i always go there to get my new tyres 90.00 each fitted disposal and balance. As for the compressor i spoke with the guy today from murrarie apparently he does the repairs at his house up the road from the Murarrie traino. Quoted 120.00 for a regas with the dye he said a regas would be the only way to find the source of the problem, this includes testing heres his number
0405287123 for anyone interested. 50/50 chance on success so just have to wait and see. Will call in to see him tomorrow and keep peepz updated.
Hey guys, my 97 VT commo heater core & evaporator is stuffed & leaking coolant. From what I've read it's not gonna be cheap to fix, anyone up for a bit of cash in hand work? I live in Lismore but have a holiday house in Ballina, 3 mins walk from the beach, so if you want to make a bit of a holiday out of it, can do a deal with cash and accommodation. To check the house out go to the Stayz website & look at property nmbr 83373, (angels beach villa). Open to offers...
Been busy with work and family stuff but can report that after a few tries to catch up with the air con repair man in murrarie finally caught him at his house its on Ives St up the road from the murrarie traino just head up the rise and the turn off is before the Servo on your left. Head down the road and his house has a green fence with a single story brickhouse two houses from
the corner of a street leading onto ives about 100m down ives st. Its sometimes hard to catch him as he has a mobile service so pays to ring through first to arrange a time 0405287123. Tell him the guy from capalaba sent you and mention this post.
To the repair job he firstly charged up the Air-con which disabled the low pressure switch and allowed us to turn on the compressor after 3 years amazed to see it still worked when he told me to switch the fan on and push the green button. From here he regassed the air-con and after like 30 minutes we turned on the air-con and its now blowing out cool air through-out my car (on recirculation). Cools the car down fantastic :-) when it wasnt working the car interior use to heat up like an oven on a hot or humid day.
Leaks
the repair man told me that so far so good but -
1.He still wasnt sure about slow leaks in the system which would show up over time and showed me where to look normally underside of the compressor.
2.He also said to look for the tell tale sign of the green dye on the ground or in the operating areas of the air-con system.
If the car has any further problems ill take it back to him but for now enjoying some cool driving around in Brisbane. My partner and daughter really happy about that too.
WARNING:Never stick your hands in or around the moving parts of the motor and compressor when it is turned on.
