I have a series 1 VT sedan. Im almost ready to take it for it's roadworthy to complete transfer.
However the passenger side door is missing the part (hinge??) that stops the door opening too far. I went tot he wreckers and we had a look. It seems a series 2 door or connection for this part has been put there instead, which has a different set up. The series 2 from what I understand uses 2 bolts instead of 1 bolt or pin?
Anyway the wrecker is telling me I cant put either series one or two hinge thingy straight on, I will have to change the door or use tech screws etc to attach the part I need. I think not having this part in place may be a problem for roadworthy?
Any ideas on the best way (without needing a whole door replaced) to rectify this?
The thing is called a check strap. Why can you put the correct one for your model back on?
Even if you don't need it for a roadworthy, your bound to do some damage sooner or later without it.

Hi, thanks for your reply.
I bought the car recently and the strap is missing. So I need to put one in myself.
I would get one new from Holden, I don't think they are too expensive and easy enough to install yourself.

Thats my problem though, I know to go get one, however the parts where each end fits into is different if you get what I mean? The door has a series 2 fitment and the body of the car has series one. The cars were made different to each other in this way. This is what I have been led to believe anyway.
The door on the other side is series one and the fittings reflect that.
Unfortunately I cant get a pic just yet, silly school bus hit it while it was parked out front and it's at the smash repairers this week getting fixed. But will get a pic when it comes back to show you.
sounds like previous accident damage and the door was replaced with the incorrect series parts, when I went to holden the other day the gentlman in the line ahead of me was discussing this very issue with the parts guy, after he provided the correct build date of the car he bought the correct part. you may need to replace the door if its really bothering you otherwise just have to live with it like that i guess.
I had a broken check strap once. well...the mount welded to the door was coming apart. Just went to the panel beaters, paid $330, refabricated the mount, resprayed the whole part of the body that was affected, and put a brand new check strap. problem solved.
Thanks for the replies. I finally got some pics. The first two are of the door without the strap and the mismatched mountings. The second two pics are of the drivers side door with its strap in place and series one mountings.
ucwepn, I agree on the accident damage and theyve replaced the door. I'd live with it for a bit longer and replace and spray the door or do as ch1mp has suggested and get it refabricated. But I think it may not pass roadworthy the way it is and by monday when I have the brakes done I already will have spent nearly $2k on it to get it ready for the roadworthy. The car just hasn't been maintained and looked after very well and Im trying to bring it back up to where it should be. Im sure whoever painted it green painted it with the doors open as you can see from the pics it's a crappy job. Almost wish it was possible to strip the green off and take it back to the nice blue it was underneath it all.
It's shocking!! I am gobsmacked at how the hell they got the green paint on the seatbelts and the sides of the seats?! I seriously think they did it with the doors open lol.
Then they havent painted anything but the outside of the car. The engine bay, inside the bonnet and behind the rubbers etc is still blue. But they did manage to paint the engine cover green without coating the motor. It has some lovely orange peel effect going on too. One day when I have the time and money I will either redo it the same colour properly or do it another colour altogether. I think the gearbox is going to be making sure any funds get sucked into that before body work though.
