Hi guy's this is my first post so not sore if its in the right place? I have a VT series 2 and I'm loosing water, not much maybe 100ml a day? but sometimes it will loos 2l in a day? ok... I'v had a look for the leak but can't find it? there's no sine of water in the oil so i thought I'd pot some stop leak in but I'm not sore what to do??? I'v got lots of tools cos I'm a bicycle mechanic so if someone
could tell me what and how to fix it! that would be great![]()
If there is no obvious leak try replacing the radiator cap. That might fix the problem and it's not very expensive.
Also, check the heater tap for leaks.
MY RIDE
I thought I was wrong once but I was mistaken.
Thanks mate I'll have a look tomorow and get a new cap and let ya no how I go![]()
O! also can you tell me wear the heater tap on the VT is?
it'll have 4 hoses coming out of it. 2 of them go into the cabin. But ye the radiator cap is a good place to start.
As for the stop leak, I would highly recommend against it. That shit will only make things worse. Ultra tune put that shit in mine to seal a leak in my heater core, it ended up sealing it up temporarily but blocked the heater core permanently. Replaced it myself though. But yeah the stop leak is only a temporary fix. I would never do it again. BUT if you do want to do it, what you do is start the car and pour the whole bottle in the radiator, top up with water if needed, cap the radiator and let the engine run for about 20 mins to a half hour. This MUST be done or else the seal will build up in one spot and block the flow, and you don't want that happening inside the block. Best to go for a nice drive I guess.
Good luck
My vt had to have the heater tap replaced as it was cactus. My radiator had cracked as well on the drivers side and completely shit itself within first 24 hours of having the car.
Replaced that and the radiator guy did a pressure test to check the rest of the system and found the heater tap leak and some other hoses leaking up the back of the motor. replaced some hoses and clamps and of course the radiator and has been good as gold since. I too never noticed the day I bought the car home that it was leaking from anywhere and my temp gauge was only up to half when the radiator was pouring out steam.
I would do as the other guys have said and try the cap first, and then maybe get it pressure tested if you still cant find the leak.
Hi guys thanks for all the help and feedback, I'v got two cars so I don't mind fixing it myself and learning as I go! also can I use an air compressor to find the leak?
O!... also i'm a bit skeachy on the stop leak stuff and ch1pm confirmed it but I've already got it so does anyone no if Goss chem-i-weld and and NULON radiator flush & clean are any good??? or can you confirm that its a wast of time and $$$

The chemi - weld is good gear I have used it in heaps of applications and have never had any problems
Look for any obvious leaks, white coolsnt stain marks on hose fittings and connections.
Check the front floor areas for any damp patches (could the the heater tap). Otherwise, another common water leak is the inlet manifold gasket.
