its more worn in areas than peeling, its only peeling near the areas that have been worn down far enough (which is only around the right hand area). the car is an exchaser so maybe the cops makea mess of it when they take all the stuff off it? this is an ls1 not a 6..

can other ls1 vt/vx owners check their cars? if some one else has a vt/vx ls1 exchaser that would be great.

Not ex-chaser but I checked my LS1 Stato (would be the equivalent of VXII) and there's no worn or peeling areas at all. It appears to be held in place by heaps of large plugs and is probably glued as well (wasn't going to pull it apart to check it though!!). Is yours glued in only?

no, i dont reckon there is any overheating whatsoever.....mine fell to bits simply because they dont like water. it is only held in by those one-use-only bastard trim plugs but it isnt glued to the bonnet. mine has been in the bin for some time with no replacement and i have no worries at all. its just another bit of material used to dampen underbonnet noise and decrease radiant heat from under the bonnet of your beast.....

actually the water thing would make sense as i wash my car a lot, and use an automatic (brushless) laser car wash a lot. the automatic wash always tends to pause at the front left hand side at the start for a long time and ive left my car running while its done this before so i may have dragged some water into the engine bay and got the insulator wet. its not peeling anywhere other than the torn/ratty parts.
im going to replace it when i get a chance. anyone know what they are worth?
and mines an ls1 if you are talking to me justbad?

yeah. i was talking to you mate...the one on my car is fine , my mate has one on his car that is wearing pretty bad...he washes his car every week and uses high pressure jets and cleans the v6 as much as he cleans the out side of the car( lol i wouldnt)and his has worn it out 2 times) im not sure if you could or should take it off before you was it ( i would think taking it off every wash would be a hassle)as for the cost of a new 1 i wouldt know...i would say if you can hunt down a wreckers that has you model with a crushed ass end you may get it cheap (keep in mind some wreckers have been known to charge more than for new parts)just check around and im sure you should find somthing that is for you.....im in melb so me looking around for one if you not in melb aint much help...................ps im in the south east of melb and there is a guy close to me who is wrecking his vt( hes selling parts on ebay he may have what your after?....if your in melb i can get you his number he selling parts pretty cheap..........................take it easy have a good week end.....anything else i can do for you let me know.............................................. cheers
