Default Possibly daft question... LCD odometer on dash.

Is the lcd odometer section meant to light up at night when you put your lights on? Mine doesn't. I ask because in my husbands Territory his LCD glows when the lights are put on with the rest of the instrument cluster.

Thanks, I thought it may be the case. One of many dead lightbulbs Ive discovered since Ive had it. I've never had my own car with the lcd display in it before, so wasn't sure.

I take it I have to take the cluster out to replace it?

Yes you do and I believe the globe is around $16 or something ridiculous like like that.

The cluster uses T5 wedge globes, you remove the cluster (and dash) and they unscrew at the back.

    Blue LED Dash Conversion

That will give you an idea what you're looking at, they might be expensive from Holden, but most servos should have them for a few dollars for a packet of 2. They are fragile so be careful, best to buy several spares, and when you install them check they all work before putting the whole dash back in. If you get stuck PM, I can walk you through it. When removing them, unscrew the bulb holder and gently but firmly remove the bulb, put the new bulb in the holder and install back in the cluster.

Also welcome to owning a VT based Commodore - the electrical system is as stable as a thunderstorm.

Thanks MC. I will get onto it during the week while the kids are at school.
LOL@ "stable as a thunderstorm". Sounds like I matched my car perfectly to myself.
I was changing the seatbelts in it today, and while pulling the pillar trims off inside I thought how much more involved this car seems to be than my old VR to do anything with.

Also, if you're not sure on how to get the dash out:

    This should help:

Thanks for the links. Whoever had the car before painted the dash and the little plastic bit inside that surrounds the speedo etc, so its obviously been out before. Thankfully the mode light works still.
