Okay so i actually considered using the power button next to the gearstick today.
Turned it on while waiting at lights, then floored it..but didnt really notice much at all, except for higher rev threshold pre-shift..
Big woop, doesnt give me extra power right? Will that actually increase acceleration at all?
correct, from what i believe it only delays the shifting by about 1000rpm
Typical; the button labelled power actually provides no power.
Kind of expected that, too, how sad
damn, thought there was nos connected to it, and i was saving it for as special occasion.
if its a auto , try this trick out, put the car in 1st now plant that sucker on take off, run it up too redline and watch the car change into second by it self... but as soon as it does put the lever in 2nd, or as you slow down it will chuck back too 1st
No thanks loopie ( I see how you got that name) I don't like to cause unnecessary wear and tear.
MY RIDE
I thought I was wrong once but I was mistaken.
Technically you will make more power if your torque doesn't drop off significantly in the extra 1000rpm
Cheap, fast, reliable.....you only get to choose two.
with an auto ls1 and the line pressure upped in a mafless tune the power button is like an electronic shift kit.
It kicks down a gear a bit easier too and it feels to me like the converter doesn't lock up as much. I generally use it for hilly roads because it stays in a low gear under a bit of load rather than trying to shift up all the time.
I've always felt the power button was a bit of a myth Lol. Now, it seems those feelings have been confirmed.

Straight from the horses mouth:
If you wanna read the whole section, go to the VT Series Owners Manual - probably still in your glovebox :P
Chapter 4, Section 4.
"Automatic Transmission"
"Power/Economy mode
The transmission operates in two types of modes: power and economy. The POWER reminder light on the instrument panel glows when in the power mode. Economy mode is recommended on normal or freeway driving, as it gives better fuel economy. Power mode has revised automatic shift points, to give the car a more responsive feel.
On higher luxury models the power/economy selection reverts to the last setting used by a particular driver, also refer to 'Personal Identity Keys' in Chapter 2. Personal Identity Keys on higher luxury levels: When the key is inserted in the ignition and turned to ON the system identifies the key and sets the power/economy selection to the adjustment for that key. Also refer to Chapter 2.
Obviously it's the first bit that's the most relevant, sadly it does not increase rear wheel kws by 50. Nor does it provide a "quick burst of power if you need it"... clearly my Grandma's information to me at the age of 7 about Commodores was inaccurate...
The New Ride - The Class 2 Shuttle Craft (VE)
I'll be he comes to get you, some shopping trolley kind of thing, that gets you where your going nice and slow... Well off you go that's fine, the pleasure's all mine.
When I light the nitro on my HQ 454 Monroe!
You'll find in addition to holding the gears a bit longer, it'll take a lot less throttle to cause it to kick down a gear in power mode.
I'd hope you've got a manual then GEN3RATD. In both my VS and VX, the power button makes a significant and very noticeable difference to the way the auto behaves.
In my CV8 it makes a noticeable difference. In normal mode it changes from 1st to 2nd very quickly, i.e. low revs. In PWR it drags the change out and in an LS1 with a tall diff it really allows the engine to work closer to its peak power band. It also sounds a lot better. Lol. No there is no increase in actual power form the engine but the longer shifts allow you to use the engine better.
Power button is for towing.
It does make the car sit at a higher rev than normal and i do find it makes the engine response alot better/nippy, i drive around with it on so it doesn't feel so sluggish lol
