    Default over heating.

hey guys problem with my vt s2 spack.

when i was driving home tonight, my fans kicked in but didn't turn off until i turned the car off. but my dash was reading that the car was not over heating, the dial would sit about 3/4 of the way up just below the overheating part, but the engine was quite hot.

so naturally i popped the hood, looked for coolant leaks around the water pump/radiator/thermostat heater valve thingy, and i cant see any visible leaks or any signs of leaks, nothing fresh.

the only thing i can think of is my car is due for a service on saturday and a couple of weeks ago i topped up my coolant with water, now could that water be boiling? causing this? if so il fix it asap.

    any help would be awesome.

    Dan.

3/4 is a bit high, they normally sit below half. Did you have the aircon on?

i did for about 2mins before driving but turned it off, and only noticed about 10mins later when the fans kicked in and the temp on the dial started rising.

It could have air in the cooling system and just need to be bled. Adding plain water shouldn't cause the problem.

It could also be a that the thermostat is not opening fully or at the right temperature.

Replace the Thermostat is only cost $12 and also replace your radiator top tank cap this is cheap too then top up the system and make sure you bleed any air out. 3/4 is to high something is wrong get it fixed before it cost you a set of headgaskets and labour.

Try parking it over cardboard after a drive to see if there are any leaks.

hey mate how old is your radiator? my clubsport did something similar when i was towing a boat last year and had a car bra on, got up to 3/4 so we stopped and pulled the bra off. not long after that the radiator srung a leak so i whacked a new one in, i had a look at the fins in the old one and only a 'few' in the middle were not blocked. now i have a new radiator i can tow a boat with the car bra on in 40 degree heat with no dramas. something to look into, and the thermostat thing is a good idea.

I had a fair few overheating issues aswell, at first I replaced the thermostat and everything was sweet. 5k km's later and it was overheating again.. this time with a few issues, cracked left radiator tank, radiator cap wasn't allowing coolant back in from the overflow tank, thermostat wasn't opening fully and air was in the system. To think this all happened within 5000k's eh? ahh well all fixed for now..

thanks for all the replies guys.

and ive checked for leaks and nothing..no new sighs of leaks either nothing fresh. il change the thermostat tomorrow.

but im a bit unsure on the radiators age, but the car doesn't say its over heating just temp goes up to 3/4 and the fans kick in. and last night i pulled over and it went away.

my old VT has the issue of over heating and that had a crack in the radiator.
