heard a ticking sound from the engine the other day after starting the car again after a long drive (engine still hot) the ticking sound would increase with the engine revs, and as randomly as it came it went away after 5min of driving engine is a holden 5 litre
sounds like a sticky lifter mate, have a llisten to the area around your rocker covers.
easy fix

+1 to that, I've got a noisy lifter, but my car has done a decent distance. Check your oil levels too, can be a bit louder and more noticeable if your oil is lowish.

Just started the engine while cold and its making the ticking sound all the time is it still the lifters whats the best way to fix this?
I would say lifter/s still is the best bet. Did you check your oil level/condition? Is your car due for a service?

the car just had its inlet manifold resealed and the distributor seal replaced by rapid tune so the oil should be new i just put some oil treatment in to quieten the lifters down i will start the car tomorrow to see if there any improvements

ok just started the car today the ticking noise is still there but go's away after a few min im guessing the oil treatment needs a few days to take effect
Yeah mate, mine does that (it's a 6 though), I'd bet it's a noisy lifter.

It's not so much bad for the engine, as an indication of the engine itself, they tend to get louder with age/kms travelled. How many kms have you done on it? Mine's been louder the last 100,000km or when the oil is low, and it's at 453,000km, so I'm not overly worried :P
