hey guys, so the other day i went to town (about an hour and a half drive) driving along an express way doing 110kmh in 6th all of a sudden the car started to surge a litlle, felt the same as when you are running out of fuel. got worse the more i put my foot down but i was still able to get around and do my shopping and then get home. it still idles ok and i had plenty of fuel. it was really strange, could it be because it needs to be tuned? any ideas would be great
Could be your HT leads.
what are HT leads?
could be a multitude of things.
hell could even be a big end bearing, I spun one about 6 months back, and that was the first sign of it going. the second sign of it going was the engine practically seizing at 80kmh.
but check the simple things first. plugs leads, coil pack, dfi module, filters, vac lines, the fuel pump relay.
Mine did that when I put the wrong coilpack on it lol change plugs and leads and coil pack.
plugs are ok as they were replaced when i did the cam swap. if it was any of these things would it show up on a tech 2?
If it's coil pack will hair line fracture a plug in 5 mins. Trust me. Spent just over $1000 trying to figure out this problem on my old vr. I thought the same thing.
if it was a plug wouldnt it do it all the time, like when idling? i spose its a bit harder trying to hear a 'miss' when i have a lumpy cam.
Have you also had any instances of the car inexplicably not wanting to start? next time you get a service, ask them to do a computer check on the crank angle sensor - they don't cost much to replace
I also had this problem in my VT Auto. It turns out I have a small transmission fluid leak. When my auto gets low on fluid it surges when cruising along the highway.
