    Default vt dash lights

Hey all .. I am just wondering, A friend has a vt wagon and some nit wit put a head unit in it. Ever since that there has been no dash lights, Not i to have installed a sterio on a vx and have set the abs off. I have also been reading the sticky on the common vt faults and the instrument cluster is one of them. What my question is, Ina vt will the sterio that has been put in, affect the dash lights?? I reakon its yes but would like someone to confirm it as i have not played with vt commodores much.. ??

In this case... I'd say it's pretty clear that something has gone wrong and yes it's ####ing it apparently.

LOL .. Is there a wire that hooks up to the original sterio to light it up when the lights are on?

hey mate sounds like they have wired the head unit earth up to the light illumnation wire which is uasally used to dim the head units backlights when the car lights are used, you will just have to re wire the earth either finding the factory earth wire in the loom or just connect it directly to me chassis for a good earth.

Check that there are no exposed wires from the h/u shorting out on the car.
Have you checked the fuses? You might have just blown one, VT's have a pretty crap electrical system.

If there are no exposed wires from the h/u and no fuses blown, check back with us.

Hey Im having the same problem with my vt. It been happening for about a year and is a on/ off thing, the instrument illum fuse keeps blowing every time I turn the lights on. I just put in a sub and amp using the same wiring of a previous sub and it started again, so I checked all the wires and there is nothing earthing out on them. I pulled out the dash to see if I could find anything and also checked the park lights, but also nothing. A while ago i found a wire that rubbed up against the back seat but it had no effect on blowing anything because they where working then. Alot of the time i would replace the fuse over untill it worked but in this case it hasnt. I went to a holden dealer today and they said check between the dash and the fuse box and i have had alot of people who had the same problem just simply take out the ciggerett lighter fuse and it fixed it for them but not for me.

Well anyway have a look for those on yours and it maybe be the source of your problem but can anyone help me PLEASE!!!!
