hey guys, I have a GEN III WHII statesman and am trying to locate a rear end noise, would 15psi difference in rear tyre pressures cause an LSD to make clunking noises ?
the noise seems to be there most of the time but today it was really bad, I noticed that one tyre was much flatter than the other, left rear had 35psi right rear had 20psi ( I have now put them both at the same pressures - but haven't been for a drive yet ) as it's raining and I have the kids with me, so trying to hear noises at the moment would be a bit difficult)
To try and explain the noise, it is only there when rolling off from a standstill going in a straight ahead direction, I get about 3 - 5 clunks when rolling off from a standstill, it happens in both directions forward and reverse. I have no chatter when turning into carparks etc etc.
today it had the usual clunks but this time it was like ( clunk, clunk, clunk, CLUNK, Clunk)
as it clunks also it feels as the car surges or is restricted by the clunks, like something is grabbing, when I first noticed this i thought that maybe the handbrake shoes were not seated right or rear rotors were grabbing, so I replaced rear Pads with Bendix and backed the handbrake right off, but problem was still there.
I have jacked the rear of the car up and spun the wheels by hand, but can't seem to feel anything doing it this way, so I assume it is when it is under load
I have slight in and out movement in both CV axles (bearing wise they seem alright to me) and also pedders did a check on the car and said they should be fine. like always when pedders took it for a drive it wouldn't do it.
any help with this is greatly appreciated... I did do searches and can't seem to find any suitable answers..
please remember when answering that the DIFF is an LSD (limited slip differential)
sounds similar to mine, but mine isn't LSD
purrrrrr
I had a similar problem, changed the oil and put in the additive and the clunking stopped after a couple of days.
Edit: I just noticed this thread is a few months old and the problem has probably been rectified by now.

I thought I was wrong once but I was mistaken.
