Exclamation Driving a supercharged vehical on p plates...

before i baught my vt s supercharged v6 i put up a post about driving a supercharged vehical on my p's. was told it cant be done and that i was a fool, idiot for even thinking i could... well i baught the car anyway. been driving it around for the last couple of months thinking i couldnt get an exemption as people like to tell you cant. well i thought stuff it im not hiding it, not debadging or caring and applied for the exemption.. was approved straight away. i have previosly lost 2 demerits and was worried they might affect it but no. just goes to show people should actually know what they are on about before making judgement...
    cheers...

    You're in Victoria?

Should have talked to more people and checked the laws recently. As yours is a 4 door, family car, it would be exempt under the newer laws.

    Searching here:
    Probationary vehicle database : VicRoads

    For Holden -> Commodore -> 1998 -> V6 Supercharged ----> Application Required.

    Which means:
Probationary drivers cannot drive this vehicle unless they are given an exemption by VicRoads. Click the following link to download an exemption application form.

And assuming you don't have neg driving charges or DUI or something stupid, you should be fine.

I am NSW, and I had to research all this a few months back, 5 mins and a Google search. Don't just take peoples opinion, research yourself - that means me too hence I have provided links, you can check yourself

    Cheers,
    Mike.

Good stuff mate, too many people get shut down straight away on this forum when they ask questions about this kind of thing. Its pretty ridiculous really, when I was on my P's I had mates at my high school driving V8's and supercharged V6's and no one thought anything of it. Now you get flamed for even asking fellow enthusiasts for advice on whats legal and whats not. Any plans for mods or just keeping her stock for now?

thats because most of them are stupid and abuse the advantage of having anymore power than a v6.

and CH53ER, its probably not the best idea to come on a public forum and tell everyone how you were driving a supercharged v6 for two months without an exemption. Stop giving p platers a bad name!!

Anyway you look at it, he shouldn't be driving a car he wasn't allowed to for 2 months. He should have just applied to VicRoads straight away, especially given how easy and simple it apparently was.

You don't need a reason... at all it seems. Not like with gun laws or anything. You simply apply for an exemption:

    http://www.vicroads.vic.gov.au/NR/rd...gedVehicle.pdf

That's the form, have a look. The only apparent condition is that if your license is suspended or cancelled, they can revoke your right to drive it.

On a forum you are bound to get a lot of differing opinions, some factual and some not, so if you want fact you should contact the relevant department and get it.

well its simple... don't drive without the exemption, you can't blame the just commodores forum for that. And how could you use the miss info as an excuse for his illegal actions? if i listened to EVERYTHING that people say on here i would believe that is is legal to drive a supercharged v8 with nos on my p plates

Advice on forums is rarely given by experts on any subject. Opinions are asked for and offered.

If people wish to act on this advice so be it.

No one has ever said the opinions on here are fact.

Therefore no need to come on here acting all high and mighty because opinions may have been incorrect.

Closing this before I need to get the popcorn out.
