    Question VT 3.8 ECU changeover?

    Hiya,

Just a quick inquiry if change the ecu in the 3.8s wether or not you need a techtool for programming it or can you do a straight swap over and away yOu go?

    Cheers

Should be a straight swap providing that you get one from an automatic if yours is automatic or manual if yours is manual. It must also be from a 3.8.

Ive heard before that on VT and later models you need to have the ECU and the BCM security codes relinked with a Tech2 scantool if the ECU or BCM is replaced for whatever reason, otherwise the security system wont allow the car to start.

You need a compatible scan tool to do a security link between the BCM and ECU (PCM).
It means a trip to Holden or mechanic with right equipment and knowledge.

I guess I misunderstood the question because I knew that and have written it on here several times before. My brain mustn't have been in gear.
