Yep, the belt runs all the accessories off the motor, all the same belt that runs off the crank.

Kinda silly when you think about it, 1 belt for all that, when it goes you lose pretty much everything. I always keep a spare in the boot,, never know when i mite need it .

.........and don't forget Dan, do a sketch of the layout of pulleys and where the belt goes, otherwise it can be a bit of a puzzle when you try to install the new one........don't ask how I know that!

interesting way of doing it... I usually would do it the opposite way, put the new one on then use the frayed one as a spare, i mean... do you carry the tools to tension it all up all the time?

i always have tools with me, have a tool bag in my boot, socket set, screw drivers, jumper leads all that stuff, so yeah, that was my thinking, thought wait till it breaks coz it should be soon, which it obviously soon was wrong, and just change on side of road, takes less then 5min to do so why not

The belt is self tensioning. All that is needed is a 15mm socket and ratchet to change it.

When the belt breaks it is always possible that it can break something, like wiring.

I didnt so much mean it needs tensioning, coz yeah it is self tensioning, i just ment without a decent sized socket you wont be able to push down the tensioning pulley, atleast you couldnt on my old one... the spring was tiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight
