Default Adding Airbags - How Difficult?

My VX Series II waggon has only got the drivers side air bag.

How difficult would it be to add th epassenger side airbag? What sensors, etc would I need?

Would the loom be there already?

besides been illegal, having a stab in the dark here, your asking on a forum, so you have very limited (if any) knowledge on airbags and how dangerous they are. its in everyone best interest to not attempt.

    Thanks guys.

I do know how dangerous air bags can be. But browsing ebay, I have seen many "airbag kits", so was just wondering if it is easier than I had previously thought!

I have been modifying my Commodore for the past five years now, but never contemplated adding airbags until I changed the cluster and the air bag light is always on because I don't have enough air bags!

I will just take the bulb out of the dash instead!.

    Cheers

Nah man you just need to get it programmed to suit your car then the air bag light will go off. Your car's a defect and insurance is void with the air bag light on - your current airbags are also disabled .

If you remove the globe you might have a problem when you next need a pink slip for rego. I recently got knocked back because my airbag light was on and removing the globe would not have helped because they check that it lights up when you turn on the ignition and the goes out when you start the car, not to mention the chime will still be present.

As Said that light is not on because you Dont have enough air bags, see a local auto mechanic and they fix that for you nice and cheap.

have you taken your front seats out before with the battery still connected? this can cause that problem.

or your main air bag is broken.

The Executive only has a drivers airbag.

The reason the light is on is because I changed the cluster (1 window to 3 window) and th ecar th enew cluster came out of obviously had more airbags than mine. My original airbag is fine (I think).

The light actually goes off when the car is started, then comes on again a few seconds later.

I have not taken out the seats at all, with or without disconnecting the battery.
I have changed steering wheels, and for that I did disconnect the battery first.

Any idea how much a sparkie would charge to reset the airbag light?
    I live in Gosford, NSW.

My s2 vx has a passenger side airbag which was a factory option so I doubt vt's had them standard besides the Calais and what not

Prices vary a lot. Ring around and get some prices.
The place that knocked me back for rego wanted $80 for 2 minutes work, I got it done for $20 elsewhere.

My auto electrician attempted to reset my airbag light, and only charged $15. But, I'm a regular, and he has no admin to pay for, so his prices a through the floor.

It was an option for the rich. The poverty pack had a drivers airbag and nothing else. I would assume the loom is in place (possibly not bin the earliest VT) but later ones it should be.

Real question is around legality as the physical dash panels may not comply. I doubt this is something that should be attempted in the shed (unless you're totally inebriated).

It seems silly, but utterly believable, that adding extra safety features is illegal. Wouldn't it be for the benefit of all to have extra safety put into a car? Maybe not a home job, but by a professional who knows what he's doing.

I think it would be allowable if they were engineered, because self installation by someone that really doesn't know what they are doing could be dangerous. Wouldn't want the airbag deploying randomly.
