    Default 6 Speed Conversion

    Hi guys

Just wondering for future reference, How hard it it to convert a series 1 clubsport to a 6 speed manual. I know it's easier to buy a series 2 but was just wondering if the conversion would be too much of a hastle Because i like the Aussie 5 littre. Also I beleive the VT series 1's Didn't have a T5 they had some other 5 speed, Are they good gearboxes and can you put allot of power through them (basically is a 6 speed that much better)?

Unless you plan on building an engine for massive HP then stick with the t5.

The t56 is a great box and is really strong....

Not much is needed to convert, its just a waste of coin if the engine is below 500hp

I blew up a t5 with less than 400hp. Mal Wood Auto specialize in the conversion. The series 1 VT GTS 220i stroker model did come with a T56 though if looking to purchase one.
Cheap, fast, reliable.....you only get to choose two.

I was planning on doing a few mods like maybe a stroker kit, sports exhaust and stuff like that. Realistically I should just buy a series 2, but I kind of have my heart set on the Aussie v8. I guess all the screwing around just gives me the same result as a series 2 anyway.

I would love to get a gts but this car is going to be my everydayer and I don't want to rack up heaps of Ks on a limmited build classic.

Hate to say it, but he dosn't have a T5, the series 1 manual has a getrag.

I would love to convert my calais, like you I love the 5 Litre. The issue is cost, All up from Mal wood you are looking at 8K, but that is all new parts. You also have to factor in a diff ratio change too as the ratios are different with the T-56.

IMHO if you do go manual DON'T get the getrag, it is a waste of money and are very expensive to fix (also the flywheels are non machineable, you have to replace them and they are not cheap). You can get a normal flywheel but apparently this make sthe box a bit chatty.
