Hey so in Melbourne we finally got some good weather and my girlfriend was complaining with the windows down so i figured ok we'll try the air con since i haven't used it before... So i pushed the A/C button chucked it on full cold and put the circulate mode on.... But the air con is basically a fan on a boiling day, It was just blowing out warm air.... I dont think the A/C is working but the lights on... is there anyway i can check to see if the A/C is coming on or has anyone else experienced this problem? Cheers..
see if the compressor clutch is engaging.
if not, chances are the system has leaked all the gas.
I'm kinda learning lol so i would have no idea how or where i could check that... Feel like explaining? =)
Take it to a place that does A/C re-gassing and get them to check it out. Most auto electricians do it. It's not really something you can do yourself unless you happen to be a refrigeration mechanic.

I thought I was wrong once but I was mistaken.
ahh man spewing I like doing shit myself hahaha anyway cheers I'll take it to a guy...
I've been told that if you don't use your air-con frequently some seal or other plays up and this sort of thing can happen, which is why i use the air con at least every week or two. But living in Queensland i guess i have more of an opportunity. Anyone know if there's any truth to this theroy?

Does the Compressor engage?
If not you can check little things like the air-con relay, fuse.
And if you know how to use a test light you can check for power at the relay.
But if you need to gas her up or open the system you will need to take it to a auto-elec.
According to Holden:
This is in the Air Con notes in the manual.
"Air Conditioning:
Once every two weeks, with the engine running, switch the air conditioning on for 5 to 10 minutes, even in Winter, to lubricate the seals."
Can't imagine them saying it if not to cover their own backside later on. But it makes sense really. I agree with everyone else though, it's not something you can just get out the old socket set and fix, actually has to be done by pros.

I'll be he comes to get you, some shopping trolley kind of thing, that gets you where your going nice and slow... Well off you go that's fine, the pleasure's all mine.
When I light the nitro on my HQ 454 Monroe!
you could check if there is gas in it by quickly pushing the little needle thing in one of the aircon ports.
The commodore workshop manuals also say that its normal for the A/C system to need periodic regassing. And as well as using the A/C once every couple of weeks in winter to keep the system in good working order, and to stop the A/C system seals from drying out and leaking. I also use my heater on full hot for 15 minutes every 2 weeks or so in the summertime. This helps stop the heater core from building up sludge and crap, which causes the core to become blocked and corroded, eventually rusting it out causing cooling system leaks. Using a quality coolant mixed at the correct ratio of 50% with distilled/demineralised water in the radiator will help keep the heater core (and the radiator) in good nick and free from corrosion.
