Hi guys, got a 1999 vt commodore and since owning it i have got a mace sports chip installed and got my mate to put in monroe gt sports and lowered king springs. I have standard berlina rims 205/65/15's and i think i need to do some of my bushes. i have got nolathane link pins installed...so far so good. Now advice on VT - VZ CASTOR ROD OR RADIUS ROD STRUT BAR TO CHASSIS ADJ BUSHES NOLATHANE 48166. They say something about caster adjustable for lowered applications??? what does this mean to me? im not sure what they mean with + and - caster adjustments etc...and how does this affect car handling with the sports suspension i got installed? Will this help my car handle better while driving. At the moment car seems to wonder around the road while driving straight even when i keep steering wheel straight feels like im driving on flat tyres, car floats from side to side and when i brake, steering wheel gives big shutter and pulls to one side. did replace rear rotors and pads a few weeks ago. Thanks guys.
Caster angle - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Under the Positive Camber Angle heading it talks about directional stability, which will probably help with wandering, if its not caused by other issues (wheel alignment, warped front rotors etc)
Lowering the car affects the camber, caster and toe-in, if you haven't gotten an alignment done since it was lowered, get it done.
These items are a good value for money way to improve your car's handling especially under brakes. They are much better than the standard oil-filled units (which in a VT are probably worn out by now) and the adjustable castor will allow your front wheels to be adjusted to the correct settings when you get a wheel alignment.
Thanks guys, wasn't sure if that was the way to go, but i'll probably get them next week from ebay, $115 for new ones seems good.
Have a look at this "HowTo" i wrote a while ago How To Replace Radius Rod Bushes VT / VZ
there are three types of people in the world , those who can count and those who can't
Hi,
We were alerted to this topic and thought we could help with some advice.
Castor is a great thing to have and adding some castor will not wear the tyres like camber but improves turn in and general stability at high speeds.
Most newer cars now have added castor from years previous due to the feel and handling it will provide.
Here is a link to the article on a 48166 castor adjustable strut bar to chassis bush.
