I was talking to the guy who services my parents MG ZT.. That car needs an oil change evert 25k, he said it was due to the synthetic oil.
He said that if you used a good quality synthetic oil, I think he said mobil 1, then it would probably be the same for a commodore. An oil change every 25k cuz the oil's fully synthetic and lasts longer..
Is that true? Sounded way too good to be..
whats the better oils

Make sure your wallet is loaded b4 you get the Pensoil.....it aint cheap.............syno oils are ok, but all my racing mates use the pensoil...![]()

if you are doing a filter change as well( about $8.00 for a new oil filter) you need 4.1 liters...but it is good to have a bit spare, so get 5 liters...SAE5W-30 in the hot weather,10W-30 for winter................
VT 3.8 w/filter takes about 4.9 litres of oil.New oil filter is about $4 retail(s/cheap)Whatever u do dont use penzshit. We've lost two VT/X engines to it.If u can afford it use Motul or Fusch.Originally Posted by rattattack1313
PENZOIL NO good...mmm ok ill take that in mind....were do i get mtul or fusch.and how much are these oil? thanks for the feed back.....................................cheers

Well i have used Penzoil and Shell and caltex, valvoline on my VT Berlina and i can say there is only 1 oil that has really satisfied my engine after trying all of them. And gave my engine a really good orgasm i tell ya.
It is mobil sythentic. The stuff the use at holden i think. For some reason you can never go wrong with mobil except the price which makes you start swearing a lot.
But it keeps the engine smooth and responsive so in the long run i think its worth the money.
yeah mate im thinking of getting some of that also................ill let ya know what it ended up costing..................cheeers

ive used BP Visco the last few changes, havemt looked back since! Tried Helix, Penzoil, Castrol, reckon Valvoline is next best option.. The BP stuff just seems to be top quality oil, and doesnt get as dirty as the others. Has a nice purrr in it too lol
BP has oil? didn't know that. hmm.......maybe i will try it out on the next service
I can say valvoline is excellent on lawn mowers. But my gut feeling tells me that they have improved a lot recently for car engines especially for the V6 ecotec.
MG
oils aint oils..........wow so many differant oils......im not sure what ill be getting but it will be the best i can get..................bp.mobil1.visco,penzoil and many more .........ill let ya know what i use.....................cheers

Unless you get the german blend of Mobil 1, i wouldnt touch the crap.Originally Posted by magomes
I use Valvoline full synth as i get it through work.
Sent the oil off for analysis after 5000k, came back at 97% efficiency, sent off the second analysis start of this week for 10000k. So i will post what the results are. We use valvoline in the Prime movers here. All our mechanics swear by it, and i do also, after 5000k in my motor oil had barely discolored
Hey there, good one is the valvoline synpower full synthetic,15w-40 try not to go to thin oil as the VT's are starting to get a few K,s now, and you will end up getting tappet noise, he Mobil1 is also a top oil however is much dearer and not justifyably better for the price difference. Valvoline oil filter VO6 sells for $5.99 at supercheap, Synpower 5lt will set you back approx $60.00. Also maybe take a look at Shell Helix Ultra, not too bad either and a popular choice for the Vt/Vx.
Hope this helps.
Matt
I got my car serviced by Midas and got semi synthetic Valvoline 15w-50 oil.
go full syth. oil not half ass oil,
just don't forget to change it , you can also help your oil by changing your filter twice during your oils life keeps it cleaner longer, you have to remember most of AU is considered extreme duty , dusty , hot or humid, stop and go traffic. which means you should change it more often
tappet noise usully means worn parts or a leakdown in lifter, you can clean them in and reinstall it to fix em
see the other post for more info in oil
I've used Castrol TXT Softec and the more recent version TXT Softec LL-01 for a very long time in all our family cars, which have included, XF Falcon, TG Gemini, 2 x V8 Statesmans, Corolla, TX5 Ghia V6, 2 x VW Golfs, Volvo Turbo, VT & VX Commodore and S/C VX. All vehicles had 10,000 km services or 6mths whichever came first. Only the current Statesman has had the engine touched. A head gasket went at about 150,000km. 1st Statesman did 300,000km and the other is up around 280,000km at the moment.
It's a fully synthetic 5w30 rated oil, specifically designed to meet longlife specifications demanded by BMW, Mercedes and Porche, whereby the oil is required to remain stable and still meet specification after 20,000 km use. If you buy 2 drums at a time, it costs about $175 delivered per 20 lt drum direct from Castrol. Castrol Part no. 114368.
20lt is the smallest it comes in. It also comes in a 205lt
No I don't work for Castrol or have shares in the company!
