Post to keep or not to keep, that is the question :P

hey all, just a quickey on everyones opinion. We have a vt s2 wags on gas and has done 294xxxks with a few problems poping up here and there.
Anyway, we took it 2 my mates shop 2 get a full service and we found a bucket load of problems from power steering rack leeking and engine mounts colapsed, bushes ect all coming up 2 over $2500 2 get it all fixed/replaced.

Now my question is is it worth keeping it or should we flog it off (letting the new buyer know whats wrong with it, dont like selling a dodgy car) and get a new car or keep it? keep in mind the car has almost hit 300000ks and sht usually goes down from there.

Well, how much have you got to spend if you sold it and got what you wanted? Look on carsales etc at what you can afford that suits your needs within that price range and go from there.

If you need a wagon, you can pick up an ex fleet VZ from the auctions for around 10k at the moment.

You're the one that has to drive it and spend the money on it. Do YOU want to keep it?

Mines at 454,000km. The only reason to keep it is if YOU personally have SENTIMENTAL feelings towards it.

I'm keeping mine, from my experience you're just starting to hit the point where it's only gonna cost more and more - fair warning. But if you want to keep it, it won't matter to you. If the body is in good nick, it might be justifiable to mechanically fix it, but bare in mind VT's are going for sub $4000 in great nick.

    Your call.

Better the devil you know than the devil you don't? If you don't have the money for a reasonable upgrade of stick with what you've got

Are you mechanically minded enough to do the work yourself?

As above if you are mechanically minded you can do alot of the work your self, i never thought i could do half the stuff i have on my ute and ive saved a fortune.
but if you would prefer a new (to you it's a new car) car then flog off the wagon and get something that is gonna fit the bill.

Take the price of fixing it off the price that you expect to get for it, and get rid of it....simple

ok, we have around 5k 2 play with plus tradin on the wagon if we go 2 a dealer, dunno tho, wagon isnt assentual as i also have a toyota prado and a vl wags. Looks like we r gonna go get a newish suzuki swift.

The wagon is in average condition and would probs get 3800 for it if it wasnt for the problems

anywho thanks for ya answers. Were selling it and getting a new car so if any1 wants a vt wagon on gas :P haha

I went through the same thing with my vn 5L wagon spent $2k on it a few months ago but it has many more problems and even if I fix them it will still just be an old vn with 267,xxx, I cut my losses and upgraded now my new car is costing me a fortune as well but its still a $10k car (for now) Its in now getting a new reco transmission for $1850 drive in/drive out with free convertor and cooler.

If you're in the new car mindset then I guess thats the way to go.

I just spent what you have been quoted on similar items on my VT. Only I was the buyer of a car with those problems and didnt know about them until I went to get the tyres ready for roadworthy as those and the brake pads were "all the car needed for RWC" according to dodgy seller.

Anyway Ive persisted and got all the work done and did a lot of shopping around and halved my costs for what the car needed. My reward? A car that drives beautifully now. I still cop flack from my hubby about it, but Meh.

If you're not that into the car then move it on, get something for it and put it to a new one.
