hi guys, i own a vt commodore 99 model. i bought it at end of last summer and the aircon wasn't working. about a month ago i had it regassed for $80 from a mobile guy. it worked fine for 15 days. it was like, one day i used it and other day i went to melb and came back the day after, nad the next day when i was going to work i turned aircon on but it did nothinf not even little bit of cooling. and remember it was working A1 before going to melb. can someone tell what would have happened and what will be he repair cost of this?
thanks for any help..........
The gas has a lubricating oil in it therefore all the time that it wasn't being used the seals had hardened and now allow the gas to escape. That's the least that will be wrong with it.Don't try re-gassing again (waste of money) Don't buy a second hand compressor from a wrecker (also a waste of money) I'm sure that if you continue to post a thread you'll find someone who reconditions them but I'd still expect to pay up to $800 fitted and re-gassed with the receiver dryer replaced at the same time.
I had a similar problem with my VS. The A/C worked ok when I first bought the car, then after a few months it stopped blowing cold air and just blew warm air. I got it regassed for $120, I also got the A/C guy to add some leak detection dye with the gas, this dye shows up any leaks in the A/C system. Anyway, the A/C worked beautifully now, better than it ever had, for about two weeks, then it just blew hot again. I took it back to this A/C guy, he found that one of the rubber hoses between the compressor and the condensor was leaking slightly at the join where it had been crimped, you could see where the compressor oil had leaked out around the crimped area of the rubber hose. I just bought a complete new A/C hose, I got this guy to fit it, and do another regas of the system, including some more leak detection dye, and its been working excellent ever since.
Id say if its leaked out that fast, then its got a slow leak like mine had, get the system checked for a leak. I dont know if they can do this without regassing the system again and adding leak detection dye. According to the workshop manuals its normal for the A/C system to need a regas every couple of years or so.
thanks for the replies guys...........
but can someone tell me of anyone who does it cheaper than 800$? b'coz the car itself worth 2000$ and spending 800$ on it is just not worth it................
thanks...............
$800 WTF mate get on ebay i just bought a brand new compressor for 275 inc delivery i put it in my self bit of piss paid $80 for regas all good and with the dye they put in dont let them charge you more for it as most a/c places put it in standard first place i went to wanted 120 including dye and oil i laughed at him told they all do that ill give you 80 said yes strait away

have u checked that the heater/aircon tap/valve is not getting stuck when switching from aircon to heating.
Whats that thing behind the dash called?. If dye cant detect the leak its more than likely behind the dash but i cant remember what its called.
