hey guys,
ive got a 01 vx calais, i had a system on it already and it was very loud dont get me wrong. it just wasnt the note youd expect to here from a commodore more like a skyline or something dropping it.
i want to have the loudest gruntiest sound for a v6,
anyone got any suggestions?
cheers
chuck ya flame suit on.
no offence but i have a 6 and when see people with 6's with super dooper loud gay exhausts it just makes me sick, just chuck on like a 2.5" exhaust with some extractors suits the 6's nice. or...
get an 8, put a big lumpy cam in it and your happy as a pig in shit :P
You will need to spend about $900. I do extractors, hiflow cat and a 2 1/2" cat back with no rear resonator that will be loud. $900 shipped.
drop it at the cats, that will be loud an its free![]()
Take it easy...But do take it...
Do not argue with an IDIOT.
He will just drag you down to his level an beat you with experience.
Some people take me the wrong way, Like smacking up Marijunna.
Supercharged V6 cat sections/catback with rear muffler removed or muffler replaced with hotdog will be loud but still bearable.
Reckon the lukey cat back bolt ons are pretty good
take off the exhaust and the headers, run it straight out of the motor.
Be perfect for you.
I've got headers, 100cpsi cat, 2.5inch system with resonator. At low revs it doesn't sound too bad, and i do get asked if it's an 8 cylinder on occasion. I know it doesn't sound as good as an 8 with a lumpy cam (damn fanboys) but it still beats the sound of a stock ecotec at 4000rpm.

thanks for all that info boys, very helpful.
im set on what headers i want, and there pacemakers as most people seem to prefer..
ive just been looking around and seeing all these bolt on exhausts like lukey and redback and all this stuff. are they any good?
or would i be better off going to the shop and getting a better brand like hurricane fitted or something?
just heard the redback and lukeys arnt really that loud or good of a sound.
as for taking the exhaust and headers off. i want it to sound like a car.. not an american chopper or something lol
All those brands will be good, just make sure you get a 100/200cpsi highflow metal-core cat or bash the factory one(shhh).
just get a flux capacitor, you'll be set mate.

not only that but it makes the whole exhaust sound really hollow and tinny
I did that then went to a 100 cell high flow cat and it felt alot more torquey and responsive (plus it sounded 10 times better)
In my opinion V6's can sound good (despite what some say), but be prepared to spend alot to get it the way you want (its taken me around 6 months and alot of money/experimentation to get mine sounding the way I wanted) (and trust me I have tried everything, straight pipes, dumping from headers, catless, catbacks, mufflers, resonators etc etc)

if you just want sound and nothng else 3.5 inch straight pipe no mufflers
I'd be listening to Not_An_Abba_Fan.. sometimes its much cheaper to ask an expert, even if it means spending some some extra bucks, and not have to do it again later.
My own opinion is to keep the system simple and free flowing, and have it made of stainless for some resonance. I think you may be better sticking with note rather than volume too.. you dont want LOUD you want SWEET. Loud just gets you defected.
i think this section needs a sticky on 'what exhaust for my vt/vx v6???' coz people obviously dont know where the search button is...
Hit me up with some reputation points if i've helped you out! (Star in the bottom left!) Cheers!

the loudest exhaust you can get is the one the cops go pull over son ....seriously no offense to V6 owners but some of them sound like absolute crap ive got a LS1 and a V6 the V6 just has a standard exhaust that goes shhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh lol.....you can always tell a V6 owner there car is de badged the car radio is cranked up going doof doof so you cant hear the exhaust lmao....Where us V8 owners have all the badges on the radio is down to hear the rumble of our exhausts.......lmao oh boy am i going to cop it for this one....only joking folks each to there own
the good thing about getting older....more toysthe bad news more headaches
I've had to use sound deadener and have also lined the boot with 3mm rubber sheeting to reduce a little of the sound from the exhaust system i've had installed. Even at optimum "doof" level i can still hear it, as can everyone within a hundred metres at high revs. Yes, haha i get it your car sounds better because it's an 8, and your even more awesome for pointing out how lame v6 owners are for attempting to make their cars better than stock to suit their taste. Still better than the increasing number of 4banger daily drivers i see with hot dogs and chevy badges.

There is no such thing as "LOUD" on a v6. Only people with small dicks get an exhaust on a V6. Buy a V8 and you can have "LOUD"
