hi
changed CAS two weeks ago car stalled mid driving again this week ,cooled down motor with water, started and drove, stalled again mid driving,
this morning taken to friend mechanic NO FAULTS on record, DFI module pins good condition ,cleaned anyway, fuel pump tested OK ,fuel filter replaced,
most fuse replaced just in case,
is there any thing we have missed??????????
Should I take to an auto electrician??
Or wait for a hot day and see if happens again?
thanks
have you tried o2 sensors... i had mine stalling when changing gears when it was cold and thats what it was
Non working oxygen sensors will not usually cause a misfire or stalling, as they dont effect the ignition system in any way. They are only used by the ECU to make corrections to the fuel trims etc, and thats only when they are in a closed loop state, which is only when they are up at their operating temperature.
Seeing that you have renewed the CAS, Id be next looking at the DFI module and its wiring and connector, if the wiring is ok, try another DFI module to see how it goes then. If still no luck with another DFI module, then check all wiring harness in the engine bay etc, including its connectors, and make sure they are clean and tight. If theres no obvious damage or problems witrh the wiring harness, then try another ECU to see if the problem lies there. Id also try removing and cleaning the IAC (Idle Air Control) valve and its port in the throttle body. Also clean the rest of the throttle body with carby/throttle body cleaner.

oil pressure switch can cause stalling
check your relays fuel pump relay engine relay
check all the plug connectors in RH corner of engine bay under windscreen, these caused a lot of trouble with water getting in on VT's
check your fuses Fuse 28, fuse 35, fuse 34,
any other symptoms eg fans don't run, tacho faulty
I had a similar problem with my VS
Started with random idle falter (nearly stalled) on a hot day back back in Feb - March
Changed plugs and fuel filter, no problems for 2 months
Then would randomly stall, every few weeks or month, sometimes while cold, sometimes while hot. (no fault codes logged)
I Changed Idle Air Control
Problem persisted, still random, every few weeks or so until one day it stopped while driving and took 5 mins to restart. I thought bewdy it will have finally logged a code
Took it to a mechanic friend, no codes logged, they had if for a day and had it idleing and drove it, No faults (bitch of a thing)
Then a month later, one morning it started stalled and would not restart, all that day and the next.
Used the instructions from here (paperclip) got a code 46, advice from here suggested DFI module or crank angle
Replaced the DFI module and coils with a spare I had and it started.
Now Starts and runs like it hasnt in about a year.
For any of these oddball issues, I would suggest changing the DFI module with another from a friends car, as it is only 3 bolts and 5 mins to do
My brother's VS had a similar problem. Would occasionally stall. New fuel filter, new coilpacks, leads, fuel pump didn't fix it. Next thing on the list was the DFI module but he sold it before we got around to replacing it.
thanks
dfi module taken off and pins where in good nick, cleaned and bottom plate cleaned ,all fuses changed, just incase, now i'll have to drive it on a hot day and see if it stalls
All fuses changed, new CAS,DFI module cleaned, every thing works on the car,
Change over DFI is only around $85 might change it for peace of mind
waiting for a hot day to see if it stalls.

whats that????
i had the same problem with my vt turns out my water pump cracked then the metal shards got stuck to the magnets on the crank angle sensor replaced pump and sensor stop stalling . does your car backfire sometimes 2 . try next time it stalls just tipping cold water on th engine side of the harmonic balancer if your car runs ok after that you will have to replace the crank angle sensor
Theres a relay in the under bonnet fuse box, itscalled power cont. Its the main power supply for your dfi module, swap it with your starter relay, its a very common problem with the V6 coz it has the same symptoms as a faulty crank sensor

Hi Boonz
thanks for the tip,I'll give it a try
Hi boonz
do you mean, Power cont to Engine Cont relay???
Found your problem yet??
changed over relays as Boonz said to do and running Ok, but still waiting for a hot day and heavy traffic
sorry guys l have the same problem but mine is a 5ltr. lt has been to an auto elec and he tested the dizzy + coil +ignition module and the computer and still it stalls. ln the last couple of weeks l have change the spark plugs and fuel filter. Has anyone actually fixed this problem or do they just sell there cars and not worry about it anymore.Your help would be appreciated.
Replace the DFI. Note that you can get faulty DFI's from new.
Ihave done the whoel CAS/Oil temp Sender/Water temp sender/ECU/Coil Packs / Leads run around myself. replaced absolutley everything. Out of habit I kept the old parts, and in frustration one day, I replaced everything one at a time with the old gear. Putting new leads and the old DFI in cured it. In the meantime I'd spent a grand replaceing everything electronic.
Also take the heat shields off the leads.
hi All
35 degrees and guess what , she stalled in heavy traffic again,
this is what I've done so far,
New CAS Senor
replaced fuel fitter
checked fuel pump (ok)
throttle body cleaned
all fuses changed
Power Cont Relay swapped with Engine Cont Relay
this morning changed DFI Module with a change over unit HOPE this fixes the problem!!!!!!!!!!!
P/s NO ERROR FAULT RECORDED?????????????
You definitely deserve an A for effort but I hope you bought a coil pack.(DFI module and 3 coils) .The coils in these things have to work pretty hard to supply enough spark to the plugs, which have a gap big enough to park a small truck in,and have to run via plug leads that are vulnerable to excessive heat if they're not well insulated. So,I don't think that there's much more to do that would be classed as common faults.except TPS,plug leads and plugs. Surely though these things would show a fault code.so I think that you are still going to need a bit of luck on your side to finally sort it. Good luck mate,You surely deserve it.
Hi SOM
thanks
plugs and leads changed 8000km's ago (170,000 km's)
the thing that stuffs me up is there is no warning when she is going to stall ,starts after 1or2 mins
and there is NO fault code
p/s at this stage I've only just changed the DFI (not the coils)
fingers crossed and wait for a hot day
thanks
My son had the same problem turned out he was missing a bolt in the little fuse box front left of the radiator causing an intermittent fault.
A dumb question, whats this DFI you talk about? Daughter having issues with her VT Clubby.
