WTF!? ls1 cutting out when i put foot down + Video

hi guys, on my way to town today i went to overtake a car, doing 90 i put it in 4th and put my foot 3/4 down got level with the car and all of a sudden mine backfired, all lights come up on dash as if you had just turned ignition on, cd player shut off then straight back on, it coughed and spluttered and sounded terrible! i had to back off and pull straight to the side of the road (no power steering!) anyway i managed to cruise to town gently and on the way home i took a vid so hopefully it helps. its fine if i put foot down in a higher gear like 5th doing 100 but if i use 4th it does what happens in the vid. its like it stalls or something.

anyone? i talked to my tuner today and he was leaning toward a power loss problem. bad earth, loose batt terminal i have checked these and they seem ok. i dont know how an elec problem would make car stall when i put my foot down though

Check your alternator mate, very similar thing happend in my mates vx, it was a auto though

This happened to my mates LS1 and it was a dodgy wire of some sort... When he loaded up the engine it would twist and earth out on something... So for example when you went to pull out in traffic you would take off and the thing would blow a fuse in the engine bay and stall out...

But if your not blowing fuses it could be a list of things....

i havent checked the fuses yet. dah why didnt i do that! my brother in law is taking it to work tomorrow to holdens to re gas the aircon and hes gonna check if it threw any codes. will keep you updated. thanks for the suggestions guys, 304runner did your mate ever fix the problem with the wire? matt the alternator is not very old but i will check it when i get it back with a multi meter.

update, it didnt throw any fault codes and fuses were all ok
