ive recently bought a vt v6 which needed a new CAS, after changing that it was running good i was driving it for the past few days no problem, yesterday i changed the radiator coolant, upon driving home from work today it just stalled, so i pulled over, stopped for a couple of seconds, and it fired up again, off i went, couple mins later, again, and again. once i had enough, i pulled over called the Raa, popped the bonnet and seen the bottom radiator hose was off, the temp gauge didn't move off half. raa came out connected the hose up and filled it up with water, released the valve on the thermostat and it kept stalling, i put it into diagnostic mode (mode+up) and the temp was reading 99 degrees. ended up towing it home, let it cool down topped it back up with water and the temp went right back up to over 100degrees, stalled again. what are peoples thoughts of why it may still be overheating and problems that may be caused.
It might need to be bleed more, especially if you only undid the bleeding screw once. It needs to be done several times to make sure all the air is released. It needs to be done at normal operating temperature.

Maybe the thermostat is stuck shut .

Sorry I have no advice to offer, but I am interested in any answers given in here, especially relating to the temp guage not going over half. When my radiator blew out my temp gauge was under half.
Now Ive just had my water pump replaced and the mechanic feels the head gasket is going to go very shortly (loads of pressure in the hoses) and said to keep an eye on the coolant level and watch for overheating. He has put a new thermostat in, but Im concerned my gauge might not ever show me if its overheating as it never goes over half, only just under it.
Under half is normal, mine never goes above that level, even if the outside temperature is 40 degrees. Radiators can blow without overheating.

Yes thats what I gathered from others in a post in another section the other day. But when the radiator is pissing out coolant and steaming away under the bonnet, I would have thought the temp gauge might have given a hint that somethings up? And am wondering if thats how I am now in the position of the headgasket about to let go because Ive been driving it around unaware that my motor is too hot. Sorry to hijack your post OP.

the top hose is super hot which makes me think that is actually open
its very rarely that a radiator goes without the car overheating.
have either of you guys looked in replacing your temp sensor?
replace everything cheap before you need to spend some big bucks thermostat/radiator cap/temp sensor and also check your heater tap valve.
simple way to test if your new thermostat is not faulty, is boil a jug of water put it in a cup and throw your thermostat in, if it opens its fine. if not its ####ed.
also you do need to bleed your system properly and maybe flush the radiator while your at it (another cheap option, could be a blocked radiator not letting coolant through) any air in your system is going to cause you problems.
thanks Dan.
ok so i just took it for a drive, checked the water, got to temp around 86 degrees. gauge is showing under half, released the valve water came out so theres no air in there, drove for around 20mins and the temp varied from 86-91 on the digital temp gauge, seemed to go alright, once stationary tho after about 2 minutes it jumped upto 100 degrees, mind you i have only got water in there at the moment, but the thermo fans are not coming on, would this be because the temp gauge is not moving past half? even tho its running hot? what are peoples thoughts?
nah fans should kick in at about 104 degrees, having water in your system wont matter.
the problem seems to be at idle, so maybe your thermostat is stuck. so start replacing a few things![]()
Had a similar problem, when driving everything was ok.. once idling the car started overheating. Main problem was thermostat wasn't opening fully, also my radiator cap was stuffed as it wasn't allowing coolant back in from the overflow tank, replaced both and everything was ok.
Well for a little while. Both my heater tap and radiator were leaking, replaced both and everythings been fine since. I'd probs flush cooling system, replace/test thermostat + radiator cap, refill coolant and go for a drive. If problem still exists, then check for radiator blockages/hose blockages and heater tap/core leaks.
ok has been going good for a while, yesterday bit hotter wether, did it again, took it to the mechanic and it turns out its the fuel pump overheating...
