Default Knocking sound in engine, Help!

Finally fixed all the leaks etc. And now as soon as everything is all good the engine is making a knocking sound!

Doesnt happen at idle and doesnt happen while driving. ONLY happens when i touch the accelerator very lightly or if i put it in drive with the handbrake on..

What do you reckon guys? New engine after all this trouble

My old engine did simluar to that, Turned out to be balance shaft...Dident bother to fix it i just put new engine in. Although it will go for a long time with a noisy balance shaft.
    Or
Harmonic balancer getting past its used by date?
    Tappet?... more a tap
    Low oil pressure?...
    Valve train...more a tap
Or aparently a dodgey flex plate can cause a knock..I have never had that nor seen it so i wouldent know.
Did u run the engine with low or no oil for any period of time?
I wouldent think you would need a new engine yet, Engine's can go for a further 200K with a knock!
And by the sound of it, It doesent sound like anything major just yet...
Are u using a diffrent type of oil than u usualy use? cheaper oil?

to be honest the oil could be low! would that cause a knock from just having not enough oil?. would it be permanent damage now?

If you havent done an oil change in a wile I'd suggest give that a go first, 10W-40 or 20W-50 depending on K's, Lower the number for lower K's
Depending on how low the oil is and how long u ran it for...But if the engine still runs fine i doubt any bad damage has been done.
But give a oil change a go and see how that goes...
Really hard to say without hearing it...
If after your oil change its still there just take it to a good mecanic and he should be able to give you an idea...For free usualy...
Have you tried taking the belt off and seeing if the knock is still there??

i reckon its an engine mount, put your car in idle pop the hood wait for the knocking noise to start, lightly push your engine to the left, if the knocking stops its the left engine mount, the do the same to the right.

hopefully this little test can help you out.

Just checked the oil its full and very clean. Iv only just bought this car by the way and its causing alot of problems. I think the head gasket is gone aswell now because of the white smoke out of exhaust thats just started and white slime under rad cap. If the knocking noise isnt something simple like the engine mount etc. Is it going to be even worth changing the head gasket?

EDIT - Just started the car then and its not making the noise while cold.

    Yeh really hard to say.
    Is the white slim oil'y?
Sounds alot like the engine that came in my car...was better just to put another motor in than fix all the problems that it had and would arrise...
    But that was my motor..
The car doesent have a miss??

The water is definatly oily. When it was knocking though when i try to take of fast it was really sluggish. Would a knock sensor pick up engine mounts knocking?

Oil in the water is not to good..No a knock sensor wouldent pick up an engine mount knocking.. an engine mount knock would be 1 knock only on take off and under heavy acceliration... is it a knock knock knock as the engine is running or is it 1 single knock?
Oil in water is either your radiatir is buggerd and letting trnasmittion oil into the water side of the radiator or intake gasket..
Oil in water is intake manafold gasket
Water in oil is head gasket...
    But can be vise versa

yeh so wouldent be a engine mount...
With my old engine it was the balance shaft..it would knock when it was cold and go away when it was hot...(diffrent to ur engine) it also had low-ish oil pressure...
Big end bearing knocks under load...like reving the engine you would hear in knock...
The engine could have overheated before you brought it wich can cause all the problems you are having
Low oil pressure would cause a knock
    piston rod bearings...
    Just many things...
You said your oil is nice and clean and full so id just keep driving it till it gets worse...mite not hurt to swing by a mecanic some day soon and see what he thinks...
But yeh these engine's can go for ever with a knock! just depends what knock!!
Maby try an oil aditive?? thicken up the oil a bit see if that helps...
Do you know what oil it has in it?
Also how many K's does it have?

ok its doing it again now. the best way i could explain it is that it sounds like a diesel engine rattling when they are cold. but it sounds alot louder and more metalic than injectors.
