Have they ever come on and just stayed on instead of flashing like the flasher unit isn't disengaging? That happens to my car whenever it's a hot day (just about every day). I'm wondering if there's a fix by replacing the flasher unit with one from a more recent model.
I haven't lost my mind, it's backed up on tape somewhere
I had to replace the flasher unit in my VX not too long ago.The indicators would just stay on,Not flashing.New flasher unit fixed the problem.Easy job to do.
Seems like it could be different from the OP's problem though.
My VX does this, but as soon as I switch on the hazards and then back off, the indicators work properly again.
Indicator stalk sounds like it needs to be replaced. I 10 minute visit to the auto sparky should have the problem confirmed
Indicators failing is quite a common problem on early VTs and was rectified with a replacement Hazard switch by GMH during warranty. It occurs when the interior of the car gets quite cold such as being left outside in winter. The problem will rectify itself after the interior warms up or by operating the hazard switch but this is not a permanent fix. The problem is the Hazard switch itself. The dashboard contracts when cold putting pressure on the hazard switch clips which tightens the switch case and causes the contacts inside the switch not to make properly. That then causes the indicators to stop working. The solution is to replace the Hazard switch. A revised version was installed in the VX model. The switch for the VX and VT is the same. The switch can be removed easily without removing the dash. Locate the Mode switch first with the up down arrows and mode button and flashing LED. It sits below the hazard switch. On the left side is a clip but you cannot see it inside the dash. Gently feed a pocket knife into the left side between dash put some pressure on the clip and pop the Mode switch out of dash. Installation simply push back in. Disconnect wiring harness on back and put the switch aside. Push fingers up through the Mode switch hole and at same time push Hazard switch into dash and with a downward motion. It will pop out. You can pull it through the Mode Hole and take wiring harness off. only problem is switch is now obsolete. There are a few switches left at New Zealand Holden dealers only. They are $45 each. Otherwise a wreckers yard. Cheers.
