Ok, I've been told by my wife the brake lights were not working on our 99 VT, so she tried to fix it by checking the bulbs firstly, nothing wrong with them. So checked the fuses they were all ok and then she pulled out the relays and put them back in. Now for some reason when I turn the car on all these warning lights come on the dash which I have never seen before and none of the gauges work (the temp goes straight up to HOT and speedo goes straight up to 180 k's). What's going on?![]()
Your car is getting in spirit for xmas and is lighting itself up like a xmas tree? j/k.
On the brake lights, if the bulbs and fuses etc are fine, maybe a brake switch? Not sure if these cars have them I could be barking up the wrong tree. But when I had my EL Falcon, all my brake lights went completely, none of them lit up. It was the brake switch which I think is in near the brake pedal somewhere? One of the other guys would know for sure.
On the dash lights, not really sure there either, but maybe one of the thins she pulled out she did with the ignition switched on and maybe should have had it turned off? Just a wild guess.
im going with abs module is buggered due to all the dash lights lighting up... ive read it a few times that its common for that to happen when the module is stuffed
your abs module is broken. tell ya wife not to play with things :P
Starin at the world through my rearview
Go on baby scream to God, he can't hear you
I can feel your heart beatin fast cause it's time to die
Gettin high, watchin time fly
to those saying its ABS module, that wont make the temp go to hot and the speedo go to 180
Start with what you know mate. If she messed with relays and rear lights, check them all, make sure they are in properly and not damaged.
And remember............ t1ts or wheels = trouble.
My 02 vx Calais did the same thing and it turned out to be the alternator,
i would never of thought
Longman - thanks yeah checked all that everything seems ok, as I said the only problem I found was the interior brake light blown, 02 Calais - thanks I'll have that checked tomorrow I have had that replaced about 12 months ago (with second hand). Calling an auto elec out tomorrow while I'm at work, will let you guys know what it was. I can hear the cash register ringing now!!
It maybe the tail light harness. Very common thing to be sold genuine but never knew why they changed them. Maybe unplug the harness and see if it changes anything, might be a short in one of them.
if you have a trailer plug check that none of the wires in that are shorting out
I know this might sound dumb, but have you checked that she used the right tail light globes? In my VT, the tail lights have the staggered little tabs on the side and the stop lights have tags that are
even. It's really easy to force the wrong ones in, so the globes on the surface look good but they cause the car to think it's blown. I've seen it before.
Replace engine with stroker, change wheels and tyres.re-paint and tell her you have fixed it!!!!!!!!Doesn't matter if you pay look what you've got hehehehe
well, i just got a 99 vt v6 today, thought i would suss the lights to see if all is working :/
.......................
when i apply the brakes with the lights off, my dash lights up and my rear globes light up both eliments, when you turn the lights on there are no brake lights just bright as fark tail lights, took the lights appart to change the globes and some spastic has damaged the holders, have no idea if this is the cause and to be honest at 11pm i cbf going further into it, i will suss it tomorrow and see how i go
