    Default Beeps every 5 minutes

Does anyone know why a reasonably loud beep occurs every 5 minutes in my wagon (VX2) - even when the ignition is switched off? I haven't had the vehicle long, so I don't know if I've inadvertently switched it into some mode that is causing this to happen even though I've looked through all the modes and everything seems to be O.K.

I've checked out the owner's manual and I can't find any reference in there similar to what it is happening. The solution is probably very simple, but it has me completely stumped. I'd appreciate some help in eliminating this annoying problem.

Is it fitted with an intrusion car alarm? Like if you were to pop the boot (but don't open it), then lock the car and open the boot the alarm goes off?
It might be a busted intrusion detection switch somewhere. Just a guess.
I haven't lost my mind, it's backed up on tape somewhere

Thanks for the suggestion - I'll check it out.

According to the owners manual it does have an alarm fitted and there's a little red light in the mode selector switch that blinks away furiously trying to tell me something - I guess. I'll just have to be more patient and, as I get used to the vehicle, might eventually stumble across something that is triggering this annoying 5 minute beep.

The flashing red light is telling you the immobiliser is on.
Do you have a car kit for a mobile phone?

Yes but it should go off as soon as you push the unlock button on your key head / remote.

Whatever it was - it seems to have gone. I've been to Melbourne and back today and not one beep. I'm now starting to wonder whether the tailgate, a door or something like that wasn't closed properly. I'll purposely leave the tailgate and/or door ajar and see if the beep comes back. If this is what is causing the beep - I'll let you all know.

Commodores don't have any warnings for door ajar.

sounds like the handbrake switch to me playing up, clean the the contacts if it does it again or replace it.

if it is that switch it will do it again.
