so i picked up a VT for 400 bucks, needs a bit of work (mainly cosmetic) but im happy and willing to do it as i love tinkering around and used to own a really nice vt all done up. now the engine in this current vt has done 300,000 and is very weak so im wanting to get rid of it. ive been toying with the idea of putting a v8 in it and have seen alot of posts regarding this.
basically, is it worth doing?
what are rough costs?
what will i need?
if its not going to be ridiculous il give it a go. all i have currently is the VT V6, thats all.
please some advice would be great!
cheers
find your closest damage vehicle auction buy one thats been crashed in the side or ass and change everything over if ou look in the right places you should be able to get a SS for around $2000-$3000 and should make a few $$$ back after wrecking the car out and selling all the stuff you dont need
after the parts, is the actual conversion hard to do?
nope all plug and play man more time than anything
if you kno what you are doing its quite easy, with all the right tools aswell

no point in putting a V8 engien into a V6. diff body weight etc. just get an 8 instead.

i mean time is no issue for me, and i enjoy learning and doing these things and i have access to mechanics advice and things, what are the key things that MUST be changed over?
engine, gear box, tailshaft, diff, front k frame, computer, bcm, key head from donor car, radiator and front suspension but it wont kill you if you dont but not much more work you can leave it all conected to the kframe if its lowered already it may sit a bit lower if its not and you planed to lower it get some springs to suit the V8 slight difference in spring load rates.
There the major things that are coming to mind right now.
So when we're talking...V8, we're talking LS1 right?

end of the day its probs cheaper just buying an 8, but a decent ls1 with everything incl for the conversion would be close to 5grand. thats not incl the car...

Some people just enjoy driving a car they put so much work into. I'd enjoy a converted v8 much more than buying one.
Its like you gave it the breath of life, or in this case another 100kw.
