Pioneeer, Orion, MB quart, Alpine, Kicker, Jl Audio, All decent sounding.
But it may be best, when it comes to the day you want to buy, Just get them to turn them on for you so you can listen and compair.

If its for a VT-VX and you are putting speakers in the rear shelf, you may be better off going splits all round, Or atleast in the rear, Because the speaker's in the rear sit quiet low- beneth the rear shelf so they loose alot of there sound(like muffeld), So you Put the tweeters in the rear shelf so you get the best of the high end sound.
I have done it in my VX and it sounds great!

Ill see if i can get a pic of mine for you to give you an idea/option.
Also i have splits up front and sound's great! I have all mine on an amp, So down the track you may want to get them onto an amp so you can get the best sound!.

Ok thanks, im not exactly sure what splits are, i didnt know u put speakers where yours are in that back part, i thought they go in the bigger holes what are further on the left and right in that back window part? mine does not have anything there yet its covered, do you suggest i get speakers for there as well? i was going to just get 4 new door speakers, but 2 speakers in the back wouldnt be a bad idea too i guess? is there any speakers what you like the look of on the jb site? i think most of them at JB are just 6 inch or so, not sure what size the ones are in the back above the seats

Hey, im not exactly sure what splits are and you think i should put them little speakers what are in the picture in mine too? at the moment i dont even have speakers in the bigger holes more to the left and right of them ones above seats, i dont know what size they are and if i have seen anything that big on JB's web site, would you suggest i get speakers for there as well? at first i was just thinking i would replace the 4 door speakers, but if the back shelf speakers will make a big difference then i wouldnt mind doing that as well, what speakers do you like the look of the most on the site i linked? also im not sure if im going to worry about an amp or anything like that anytime soon, thanks

    Hard-ish to explain..
Basic everyday splits are a 2 way, they have the mid range speker in the door/shelf, then an additional 'little speaker'(tweeter) that can be mounted in a diffrent location, giving better sound to you.

You know, The speaker in your door now puts out mid and high frequencies but are all directed at your feet, So yeh its OK but this is where splits are better.
With splits you can have the mid sound in your doors facing your feet wich is fine..Its really the high sounds you want a bit more directed, This is where tweeters come in, Depending on the car, You can fit them where ever you will get the best sound... giving all round far better sound...

In the VT-VX (wich already have factory tweeters), when you buy your splits you would take the factory tweeters out and put the new ones in where the old ones where, I think in the commodore thats the best place for tweeters! Guess thats why there in that position to start with...

You dont have to buy splits if you dont want to, normal speakers may be fine for your ears!
As for speaker placement.... Well i have 10 speakers, I have Splits in the front, 6" coax speakers in the rear door's and i added 6/9 splits in the rear shelf.
But you wont need all that... the commodore has factory speakers in the dash/front doors & rear doors.(no rear shelf speakers )

So you can get a set of 6/9's for your rear shelf if you like, Along with front doors and rear doors if you want to go all out....(Ull need an amp for 4+ speakers)
I originaly only had front and rear door 6' speakers but it wasnet near enough for me, So i went ahead and put 6/9 speakers in the rear shelf, But then thats when i noticed that they sit far below the shelf and muffle 60% of there sound, I was getting great mid sound's but no trebble, So i then got some 6/9 splits so i could put the tweeters in the rear shelf(pic above) and that made it sound 10000000 times better!!, Thats why I would always recomend it to anyone installing rear shelf speakers!
In my opinion, Getting rear shelf speakers makes HEAPS of diffrence!!, Rear door speakers dont compair at all!
Commodore front/rear door speakers are 6', Commodore rear shelf speakers are 6/9.

vt-vx have a metal plate tac welded in the 6/9 holes in the rear shelf that you have to tap/bash out to fit your new speakers, You also have to cut your rear wood shelf above them and fit speaker gards(lot easier than it sounds)
Sorry for the on and on typing but just trying to help you make a good decision.

In the end i would recomend getting splits in the front with the tweeters in the factory location.
And 6/9 splits in the rear shelf with the tweeters placed where mine are..6/9 splits are harder to get than 6" splits..

Depending on your budget, But i'll assume you dont wat to spend to much so off the web page you supplied id say go with the:
    /////ALPINE 70W splits for the front doors = $187
For the rear shelf, They dont sell 6/9 splits so the next best thing would probably be
    Kicker 6/9 speakers for = $119.(if u cant get 6/9 splits)
If you cant, you can get Just the tweeters and crossover from jaycar and just hook that up to the rear speakers... 25mm Silk Dome Car Tweeter - Jaycar Electronics
Just dissconect rear door speakers...They dont do to much anyway!

I may have missed some stuff out but its 2AM so doing pretty good! ha

All above is my opinion and from previous experiences, But i think if you go that way you wont be dissapointed...

    Good Luck!

The only ones on that JB website I would even consider for good audio would be the JL Audio, MB Quarts, and maybe the Alpine Type-R.

But in all honesty why don't you go into a JB and listen to the speakers, that will give you a better idea of what your ears like, than a 100 pages of advice on an internet forum.

Ok thanks heaps for your advice, so for now ill maybe just get some speakers for the front doors and in the future if i get rear shelf speakers u say its best to just disconnect the rear doors? i wouldnt need an amp for 2 rear shelf and 2 front would i? thats 4 speakers. if i do only get 2 speakers for now i could probably afford these Kicker 120 Watt 6" Splits - Speakers - JB Hi-Fi - Smashing Prices! they come with the tweeters and are a higher wattage and just $10 more, would they sound better because they come with the tweeters?
    cheers

Couple pieces of advice from a novice myself.

    1. You want the best quality speakers your budget will allow, in front of you. If you go to a concert, the majority of the music and vocals aren't coming from behind you. Same in a car, you want the best sound possible up front. Other speakers can be added later.

    2. You might choose to replace/add only one set of rear speakers; in the rear doors or the parcel shelf. Doing both (most people believe) is a waste of money. In which case, when you get a 4 channel amp, run the front and aftermarket rears off the amp, and either disconnect the second set of rears, or leave them running directly from the deck.

    3. Should you choose to add a sub, you might want to leave the parcel shelf holes open to allow more bass into the cabin. (put a grill on the hole so it looks tidy, but have nothing there) This will provide extra bass if thats something you are looking for.

    4. As with what everyone else has said, go down to JB or wherever and actually audition the speakers. You will find that the speakers you wanted are actually not good enough quality for you, or the wrong sound. Case in point, I wanted Polk Audio, went and listened to them, wasn't impressed, listened to Focal, much more impressed, bought Focal.

    5. Best car speakers is a matter of opinion. Like asking what the best colour is for a car. Go and see what is right for you. And please, please remember, the max power rating on a speaker is not a true representation of its power and sound. For that, you need to look at the RMS value, not the Peak.

    Hope this helps.
