let me start at the begining, about a year ago i serviced my vt, when i tried to back out of the garage i could not turn the ignition key , so car half in and half out of garage , after 2 hours of fiddling with barrel and key frustration set in and i took a hammer and screwdriver thinking i could just turn the disc at the botttom of barrel , well that is when i discovered this forum !. i ended up with 4 wires red purple brown and i think yellow , took me a while but found out what was what and when i went to start it it would fire for a second then cut out . days later i found out ,or was it by chance that when i pushed the unlock on the key HEY PRESTO !!!!. after 3 weeks or so the key battery died so i tried to replace the battery , big mistake . off i went to holden with a hot wired car and a key basicly in bits, after a bit of ingeaniuos by 1 machanic he got another key programmed . i have been driving around since then either pressing unlock or just inserting key into barrel so it connects with the metel ring to disable immobilizer and with 3 wires connected with bulldog clip 4th to turn over starter, untill a few days ago when it stalled soon after setting off from work tried to restart fired for a few seconds the stalls over and over , checked error code , nothing . fuses , relays , clicked unlock , with key in barrel etc etc nothing seems to work, resett bcm , new fuel filter , suspect fuel pump? can hear it buzzing and there was pressure in fuel line as i checked it soon after i changed fuel filter , lube mobile guy squirted easy start into air intake and it oviously ran for a while , he diagnosed fuel pump ??????? i am not to sure !!!!as it is doing what it first did when i got stuck 1 year ago red flashing light goes out when key is presant .......................................... COME ON GUYS GIVE ME SOME HOPE !!!!!! p.s car is stuck about 80 k from home !!!!!
Why not replace the barrel and get that part of it sorted out?
Hammer and screwdriver, not a good combination.
MY RIDE
I thought I was wrong once but I was mistaken.
all these questions for the last few weeks and now you let us know that you have hacked your cars ignition barrel
might have helped if you let us know earlier
Im sorry to say this but you must have a ....... for braines.Going thru all that,for what?Why dont you pull your barrel out,take it to nearest locksmith,he will fix it while you wait,they can even make new one for you,cause they carry all the bits for our cars ,,,presto.Mine was getting bit slack,so got a new one made out in 20 minutes for $60.
As for your prob. obviously, connecting and disconnecting wires,you must of cooked/blown/burned something for sure.
@MJD59
(tongue in cheek)
Hammer and screwdriver when your frustrated? Shit hate to see the "sledgehammer and chisel" you use on the missus when the stubby she brings you is 2 degrees too warm.
even a barrel and a key from the wreckers is better than the crash bash she'll be right approach, we should buy you a Ford, and take the poor VT away from you, where it can be cared for and treated like a Holden should.
Having said all that I do hope you get it fixed properly and don't break the bank doing it
