Hi,
I have been having trouble with my buttons on my key not working anymore. Firstly my unlock/lock buttons started playing up then button for my boot stopped as well. SO now i can only uses the blade part of my key and this causes problems with my car starting. Once i have put the key in and turn the car on iand then turn it off i have to take the key out, turn it around and then put it in again to re-start my car. Sometimes it turns over once then dies. This is quiet annoying.
I read up that sometimes the battery inside can die so i opened up my case to see if i could change the battery in it but the battery is soldered to the module inside the casing. If i buy a new casing do i need to get the key configured to my car or do i just take the key blade off and put it in the new casing and it will work normally? Or do i have to go to my local Holden dealer and get a genuine one made to my car?
If anyone can help it would be much appreciated
This happened to me not too long ago, and a new key was required. You only need the new casing, you can reuse the actual key.
Going through Holden they charge around the $200 mark, BUT if you know anyone who is a mechanic they can order the key from Holden for around $50-$60 (which is what Holden will charge you anyway I think, they just charge a fortune for the programming) and can program it for you for free as long as they have a computer.
The key it self will unlock the car no matter what I'm pretty sure, it just won't start it.
I have heard that you can remove the battery from the case too and solder it all back together but if your not confident with that you may end up destroying the electronics regardless.
Hope this helps!
either go to holden or a reputable locksmith and buy a new programmed remote
and have peace of mind for several years
if you try to fix it yourself you will join the hundreds of people posting here
trying to get us to diagnose a problem they caused
Hey, Just today i replaced my battrey's in my VX remote's for no real reason haha... Well i got new cases so i thought while they were apart i would change the battreys, But they were working fine before...
First, Have a look on ebay, There is a guy in brisbane selling 2x remote case's for $13.95 with free post. they have the chevy logo on the back but ohh well there the cheapest on ebay!
Second, Go down to your local Jaycar and get the 2032 batt's with the terminal's already punched/welded onto them.
Third, When your new remote case's arrive, Rip your old one's apart.
Forth: Unsolder your old batt's, But remember what side is -&+, Now, Before you un-solder, Look for alternate pos/neg points, And solder wire's onto them, And conect to a second 3V batt, This is so the remote will never go without power, I have no idea weather it harm's them to go without power, Some say yes some say no, But i dident want to risk it so i just kept power to them.
Fifth: Solder new batt in and unsolder the temp power wires off, Put the circut into your new chevy case and put back together....
Then your good to go!!
But yeh as i said, Its a real good idea to keep power to the remote, Some people say you dont have to but unless you want to risk wiping the code, Its not real hard to solder 2 wires onto the circut board for peace of mind! I dont think it would erase the code but yeh...Just a good idea just incase
2x remote's cost $13.95 posted to my door, Took 1 day to get here.
2x 2032 batt's cost $2.95 each.
Jaycar ref code for the Right batt's is CR2032-1HFE. And they are Panasonic if i remember right.
Its really easy to do!(if u can solder), Saves paying $100+ elsewhere and you practily have a new remote that will last another 9 years.
Mine work really well now, Start the car without any problems, Just make sure the new battrey is secured really well so it wont fall out of place if you drop it ect.
My battrey's stayed down really well just with the solder but i added a bit of adhesive just for insurance.
Good Luck!
Nice work, I guess if you have spare time ^^^^^ alot of running around and organising to save a dollar and hoping it works
Well i needed new remote cases anyway, Button's were worn out, And i was driving past jaycar so i just dropped in and picked up the battrey's.
Only took 10-15min's to complete the job,
To me, It was well worth it, And turned out great!
I never had any doubt's that it wouldent work, It's such a straight forward job
.
I know some people would prefer to go out and pay the high $$ for a new key because its quick and easy.
But its good to have the option.
Atleast people now know it can be done, I had a bit of a read around before i started but couldent find much, It was just some people saying that it cant be done, it will erase the code's ect, And some people saying that it can be done but they havent done it in 10 years.
