Default Big Problem on my bonnet

    hey guys,
as you can see in the picture i have a major problem. long story short i left a magnetic p-plate on there too long and it baked itself to my bonnet. very stupid i know. the high spots are from me gluing other p plates to the patch, A) to hide the big ugly patch and B) because it wont stick to it.

    so far i have tried
    -razor blades
    -metho
    -fishing line
-hair dryer and each of the above

the only way i can see it going is to sand it back and get the bonnet repainted.

    any suggestions?

Prepsol/wax and grease remover will soften the glue use stiff plastic e.g old credit card or bog applicator then a rag soaked to remove the rest.

You could try a caramel wheel, it may get it off, just be careful you don't burn the paint.

Using a heat gun may work too, a hair dryer doesn't get hot enough.

I still fail to see any logic in sticking anything to your paint....

caramel wheel is designed for this kinda stuff, dont stress to much about burnning it because you will have to buff it afterwards anyway, im a spray painter, id just grind it off and re paint it. but ofcourse it would cost me alot less than it would you.

ok well the caramel wheel worked pretty good. took about an hour to get rid of the bulk and then about 5 minutes cut and polishing to get rid of the scuff marks. looks a million times better even though at a close look u can stil see some marks where it was and from the wheel

Well, there's a good luck story if there was ever one. But what is a 'caramel wheel' and what is it meant to do. Never heared of one before.

ive herd of them before. its basically a rubber wheel that goes into a drill and as it spins it burns away the urethane or whatever it is ur trying to remove. pretty handy

Handy as! good for getting rid of the gunk under side mouldings and only $12 from a paint shop! did you just polish once you used the caramel wheel? might benefit to do a cut and polish to get rid of any marks the wheel left!

There is another way if you don't want to pay the $7 and have a better chance of not scratching your paintwork any more than it already is but you have to be patient.
•The idea is to be gentle with it. Use soapy water and a soft, clean cloth to wash around the plate to start with.
•Get a hair dryer and heat the magnetic plate till it is pliable.
•Slowly lift the edge of the magnetic plate. You may need something firm to help lift it up. Something like a plastic ice-cream container lid cut in half.
•As the magnetic plate heats and becomes more pliable you can push the plastic underneath a little bit at a time.
•Try to keep it lubricated as you do that. Squeeze or spray some soapy water underneath as you go.
•Keep at it, bit by bit and hopefully it will come off without any more damage.
•Give the area a wash and polish to finish.
Good luck to the magnetic users.
You could try the p plate holders or p plate clips.
