    Default Transmission Pan Gasket

The transmission pan gasket is leaking on my VX , I gave it a service a couple of months ago and the gasket seemed a fraction small and now it is leaking . I tightend the bolts and made it worse . Just wondering if you should soak the gasket in trans fluid before fitting or just use gasket sealant.
    Thanks in advance, Dave .

I have always fitted them dry, no sealant and torqued to 11NM.

Is it a cork or rubber gasket?
I hear the cork gaskets are rubbish.

Do not overtighten the bolts, you'll just break something.

Always use genuine parts when it comes to transmission servicing.

I've only ever used cork gskets, torqued to 11NM. They are fine.

I only ever use cork as well. The reason you don't over tighten the bolts is because it squishes the gasket out and causes leaks, not because it will break anything.

Eeep. Looks like I had it the other way round. Although, I've never had problems with genuine rubber gaskets
