Hey guys,
Just wondering for someone's opinion or experience with a similar issue. Today I drove about 100 metres from my house got to about 35km/h and the engine cut out and all the dash lights came up. I let it sit for a couple of minutes and then started it again and all was fine. Drove the car for another hour after that and all was fine, seemed like nothing was wrong. I am just wondering what would have caused the cut out. My car is a 1998 VT S pack with an ecotec. Any help would be helpful, if not I will try and get it put on the scanner and log the error codes, but all the lights came up so the scanner might give off all different errors.
Cheers.
My old VR did that about 5 years ago. Drove 200 metres from my house to a servo, filled up, got 50 metres from the servo, car stalled and all dash lights came on. Waited a few minutes and it worked again.
I took mine to an auto elec the next day. He had it for a few hours, then told me he couldn't find anything wrong with it, and it has never done it again since 5 years later. Weird.
Your problem could be the same thing.
Might be just a glitch or something, if its running alright and there are no fault codes logged then don't worry about it... Unless it happens again.

Yeah I don't know if there are any fault codes, I would have to take it and get it run on the scanner. I think I might just give it a miss and see if it happens again. I just don't want it to happen on the highway or anything luckily it was close to home and if it was serious, I could have pushed it home. Thanks for your reply.
hi look at my thread (stalling CAS Sensor?)
start with with replacing CAS common fault with VT's stalling mid driving and starting soon after
In the last month I've changed CAS x2 CAM sensor ,relays fuses, battery cables, oxygen sensor ,DFI module + coils to NO avail,
car still stalls mid driving next on the list is Fule pump!!!!!!!!
hey all
I've had a similar problrem with a vt acclaim, and i first tried checking and changing cables, fuses, relays, even put a new alternator on it.
Then after about 6 months of it pissing me off, i got a heads up from someone that the abs module creates this problem.
So i replaced the abs module with a reconditioned module from repco for bout $350 and its never played up since
but don't take my word for this, there could be a number of reasons why this is happening.
Okay thanks for that I will look into that, however please let me know if it stops once the fuel pump gets done, because I think that might be the issue. Is there a sensor for the fuel pump? Because I was thinking last night, what could have caused this issue and then remembered that when I filled up the other week, the needle took about 20 minutes to go from empty and show that the tank was indeed full, oh and a couple of days ago the fuel pump clicked at about 60 litres which is about right because I still had some fuel in the car and the needle only said 3/4. Maybe that is the problem, least I have thought of it now, was too carried away with the car stalling lol. But thanks![]()
Thanks for this, however the ABS module has been replaced because it use to make the cluster light up like a christmas tree, I have checked the fuses and relays and all seems fine. Alternator was replaced about a year and a half ago with a 120amp police one. I just hope it doesn't happen again. But possibly fuel pump issue or similar.
every time mine stalled ,No ERROR fault recorded,
But at stage after restarting, the fuel distance metre showed 780km dist to empty ???
the fault vt's have with fuel pumps is the connectors which plug in the pump ,ark out when hot which stalls the car.
lucky you
mine is sitting in the drive for the last Three days due to hot weather, I have ordered a new fuel pump to install next week.
this is the only part I haven't changed

It's your fuel pump mate. I had exactly the same symptoms for a ceased fuel pump. Was running it on LPG and didn't switch over to petrol to keep the pump and injectors going for several months so the pump ceased up and i was stalling everywhere i went. I'd go for the fuel pump.
your car wouldnt stall for no reason and if it was likly a sensor it would continue doing it mine did it like 3 months ago started right up after it stalled it would most prob be a fuel blockage
Ahh not good. Sounds like I need to fix up the fuel pump, I hope everything gets sorted and the install goes fine with you.
I think I might as well get a new fuel pump, considering the fuel gauge was being a bit temperamental. Cheers mate.
Yeah I think it was caused by something to do with fuel, I am going to start off by replacing the fuel pump and go from there. Cheers mate.
