    Default Cleaning Inlet Manifold

    Hey guys

just wondering what to use to clean the inlet manifold where the gaskets go (sorry if this is vague im not the most mechanically minded person)
on both the heads(?) and the inlet manifold. Pulled off the broken inlet gaskets today so there is oil and sludge there, gave my dad a call and he said to get a wash bin
and use kero with a paint brush on the manifold but didn't know what to do for the heads.
Also whats the best thing to use for the inside of the manifold to get rid of all the black stuff?

i brought this s2 vt real cheap off a lady because it over heated and stopped on the side of the road and thought the best way to learn about car is just to dive straight in and if i get it working again well another car for me if not then ill just part it and sell it

    Thanks Jake

Use throttle body/carby cleaner and a tooth brush to clean it all. Scrape out the ports with a flat blade screwdriver and/or a razor blade. I'd also put a clean rag over the middle.

I think theres a product called Wynns Petrol EGR3 (There's also a Diesel version but i wouldn't recommend that).

That will clean the inside of your throttle body & inlet manifold. It's suppose to remove all the carbon & oil deposits as well, so it should come up looking really sweet again.

As for the old dried out gaskets & stuff, FLAK is right on the money. You should use carby/throttle body cleaner. That will soften & remove the gasket material as well as the carbon deposits etc.

A small strong scraper i found is a little better than a razor blade, but a razor blade can get into places that a scrapper can not.

    Thanks for the tips
been at it for a while now
This is where im at now, just want to know how clean is clean, and how do i get rid of the the gasket outline, tried with a paint scraper and a razor blade and i just end up scratching it,
most of the outline that is left seems to be in pitted areas and i cant get it in there, does this mean i need to replace it

    Thanks Jake
